Hydrocarbon fouling in heat exchanger are very common problems usually encountered in petrochemical plants all over the world. The untimely deposition of heavy organic and other solids dissolved or suspended in the fluid flow systems hydrocarbon fouling still remains as one of the major challenges in the complex hydrocarbon systems confronting the chemical, petroleum, petrochemicals, food, pharmaceutical and other industries. There have been several mitigation strategies and approach to overcome the fouling problems and one of the approaches is using a combination of chemical cleaning process and mechanical cleaning process to remove these unwanted fouling during turnaround or shutdown period. This paper will discussed on the application of FormulationS an aromatic based cleaning solvent to remove the unwanted depositions in the air finned coolers. The FormulationS chemical has been successfully used during chemical cleaning process to soften the hydrocarbon deposition inside the tubing of these air fin coolers to the extent that it can breaks the hydrocarbon waxy characteristic into a very fine form of porous grains which is easier to removed.
