Motorcyclists swerving in and out of lanes and in between lines of vehicles contribute to traffic conflicts thus creating unnecessary risk of collision. Keeping their travels in dedicated lanes ('keep left' order) as much as possible, may perhaps increase their safety on the road and consequently help reduce road deaths and injuries in Malaysia. (MRAA) represents the interests of Australian motor cycle riders and supports road safety initiatives, including the recommendations of the 2012 Parliamentary Inquiry into Motorcycle Safety (PIMS). PIMS promoted a consultation process for motorcycle safety, this involving all Victorian road safety agencies, motorcycle clubs, stakeholders and members of the wider motorcycle community. Motorcycle is a popular mode of transportation in many developing countries, including Pakistan. Since the last decade, the registered number of motorcycles in Pakistan has increased by six times, constituting 74% of the total registered vehicles. However, limited research efforts have been made to investigate motorcycle-related safety issues in Pakistan. us, the relationship between potential risk factors and injury outcomes of motorcycle crashes is still unclear in the country. is study, therefore, established a random parameter logit model to examine the factors associated with the motorcycle injury severity. e analysis is based on two years (2014-2015) of data collected through the road traffic injuries surveillance system from Karachi city, Pakistan. e results indicate that the summer season, weekends, nighttime, elderly riders, heavy vehicle, and single-vehicle collisions are positively associated with fatalities, while the presence of pillion passengers and motorcycle-to-motorcycle crashes are negatively associated with fatalities. More importantly, in the specific context of Pakistan, morning hours, young riders, and female pillion passengers whose clothes stuck in the wheel significantly increase the fatal injury outcomes. Based on the findings, potential countermeasures to improve motorcycle safety are discussed, such as strict enforcement to control motorcyclists' risky behavior and speeding, provision of exclusive motorcycles lanes, and education of female pillion passengers. e findings from this study would increase awareness of motorcycle safety and can be used by the policymakers to enhance road safety in Pakistan, as well as in other developing countries with similar situations.

Motorcycle popularity has increased in recent years, along with motorcyclist fatalities. While passenger car drivers realized a 27.96% drop in the fatality rate from 1996 to 2006, motorcyclists had a 28.8% increase. Attributed accident factors include: driver/vehicle demographics such as training, age, motorcycle type, and experience; human error and violations; environmental factors; cognitive factors such as situational awareness and personality; and social factors. Primary fatal accident causes, largely attributed to perceptual or skills-based errors, may be caused, at least in part, by cognitive and social factors; and addressing those factors may have an even greater effect on reducing accident risk.

The most common evasive maneuver among motorcycle riders and one of the most complicated to perform in emergency situations is braking. Because of the inherent instability of motorcycles, motorcycle crashes are frequently caused by loss of control performing braking as an evasive maneuver. Understanding the motion conditions that lead riders to start losing control is essential for defining countermeasures capable of minimizing the risk of this type of crashes. This paper provides predictive models to classify unsafe loss of control braking maneuvers on a straight line before becoming irreversibly unstable. We performed braking maneuver experiments in the field with motorcycle riders facing a simulated emergency scenario. The latter involved a mock-up intersection in which we generated conflict events between the motorcycle ridden by the participants and an oncoming car driven by trained research staff. The data collected comprises 165 braking trials (including 11 trials identified as loss of control) with 13 riders representing four categories of braking skill, ranging from beginner to expert. Three predictive models of loss of control events during braking trials, going from a basic model to a more advanced one, were defined using logistic regressions as supervised learning methods and using the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve as a performance indicator. The predictor variables of the models were identified among the parameters of the vehicle kinematics. The best model predicted 100% of the loss of control and 100% of the full control cases. The basic and the more advanced supervised models were adapted for loss of control identification with time series data, and the results detecting in real-time the loss of control events showed excellent performance as well as with the supervised models. The study showed that expert riders may maintain stability under dynamic conditions that normally lead less skilled riders to a loss of control or falling events. The best decision thresholds of the most relevant kinematic parameters to predict loss of control have been defined. The thresholds of parameters that typically characterize the loss of control such as the yaw rate and front-wheel lock duration were dependent on the rider skill levels. The peak-to-root-mean-square ratio of roll acceleration was the most robust parameter for identifying loss of control among all skill levels.

In this study, data was gathered for 12 variables. These variables are; number of lanes, number of humps, number of the intersection, number of the bus line, number of minibus line, number of the traffic light, number of crosswalks, peak hour, pathline, headway and parking on road. Considering the correlation matrix, the number of the bus line, the number of minibus line and number of crosswalk were removed. In this study, the logit model approach using for analyzing discrete variables is utilized. The choosing variable is brake number per kilometer for the established model. After that three-level are decided via threshold values in order to convert continuous variables to discrete variables. Motorcycle crash-related fatalities and injuries have a relatively increasing tendency compared to other vehicles. The new development of safety devices and technologies for prediction of their behaviour are therefore also increasingly important. Motorcycles have the least amount of protective devices amongst vehicles. A small disturbance in the motion of motorcycles can expose the riders to severe impacts leading to injuries especially in the appendicular part of the body, but the severest injury is usually to the head. Head injuries are the most common cause of death amongst motorcyclists (approximately 45 %). Thus, naturally, the main protective equipment preventing motorcyclists from fatal injuries is the helmet. In this study, detailed finite element models of helmet and human head are used to simulate and analyse the impacts on a protected and unprotected head in a scenario typical for motorcycle-related collisions.

Year after year, the leading cause of fatal motorcycle accidents is another driver failing to yield to motorcyclists right-of-way, often claiming that the motorcyclists seemed farther away than they really were. To determine how vehicle type affects distance judgment, participants were asked to make relative distance judgments of vehicles using a reference. A video based combined pupil/corneal reflection eye tracker was utilized to measure attention via fixations throughout the tasks. Results show that participants tended to rate motorcyclists as farther away than reality and trucks as closer than reality. Also, experience driving a motorcycle influenced accuracy of judgments.

This research illustrates the idea of taking safety measures while riding on motorcycle. In addition, wearing helmet and rising its awareness to the motorcyclists are the main aspect of this research too. Moreover, surveys and some analysis have made this research somehow successful.

Even though Nigeria has had a compulsory helmet legislation in place since 1976, helmet usage rates among motorcyclists has been very poor. Consequently, the Federal government of Nigeria, through the Federal Road Safety Commission commenced more stringent enforcement of the helmet legislation in January 2009. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of proper helmet use by motorcyclists in Urban Lagos after the commencement of the mandatory helmet law enforcement and to compare helmet use with respect to day of the week or time of observation, type of road, type of area, number and gender of passengers. This report highlights several important findings of a study on the braking performance of commonly used low engine capacity motorcycles in Malaysia. This study measured and compared braking distance and G-force value (peak) during braking test of 6 distinct underbone motorcycles of 100-150cc in simulated emergency situation based on different test conditions namely type of brake system (disc and drum), method of braking operation (front and rear brakes) and test load (rider only and rider with pillion). A total of 48 runs (24 test conditions) of the actual braking test were performed at the test site (closed course). The study reveals the type of braking system and method of braking operation significantly influenced braking distance and G-force value. However, it was found that test load was not significant. Furthermore, both front and rear brake activation provided better braking performance as compared to single activation (rear brake only). The shortest braking distance and highest deceleration rate were 12.48 meters and 8.52 m/s2. While the lowest G-force value (peak) recorded throughout the actual braking test was 0.39. It is to be noted that this study is unique on its own due to certain limitations though some of the methods were adopted from the established international braking test standards. Even though this study is considered fundamental, the findings could provide vital information on the braking performance of underbone motorcycles especially to the motorcycle manufacturers and OEMs, as well as to the relevant authorities (driving institutes and Road Transport Department). Since advanced braking system such as Antilock Braking System (ABS) and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) have proven effective for passenger vehicles, a study is required to explore their effectiveness for this type of motorcycles in the future.

The study aims to design and produce a super bike portable parking device which are lightweight, easy to use and easy to store. The purpose of this super bike portable parking device is to be used to facilitate the parking process of a super bike to park easily especially at small and narrow spaces. Through observation, the available super bike portable parking device nowadays are difficult to be adjusted, and stored to be carried everywhere because of its large size and its design that cannot be adjusted. The super bike parking device produced has a feature that allows it to be folded into a smaller size without changing the weight and strength of the structure. This super bike portable parking device using hollow mild steel type material with a size of 20 mm x 20 mm and a thickness of 3.0 mm. The maximum load that can be supported by this super bike portable parking device is 300 kg in which the whole parts of super bike are accommodated. Additionally, this device is equipped with safety feature such as alarm. Therefore, the project or study has achieved its goal, namely to increase the safety of super bike as well as to facilitate users to use and store the super bike portable parking device, thus saving space.
