Since 2001, the proto-Byzantine church of Derecik is known for its mosaics and its basilical plan comparable to that of the church Hagia Sophia in İznik. The excavations led on the site from 2007 till 2009 and in 2012 specified the dating of the church and revealed more former and contemporary structures of the building, as well under the pavement as in the perimeter of the enclosure in which the basilica was set up. Vestiges previous to the IVth century adopt forms which question, between scattered settlement and chapels, between industrial park for small businesses and votive deposit. The developments of the IVth and Vth centuries, even later, invite to see around the church a plan of rooms maybe intended for the monachal life at first, before being used by pilgrims or in religious purposes. The building will be analyzed from the point of view of its architecture and decoration and of its impact on the understanding of the region which surrounds him, called thousand one churches.
