Museum Curation

This poster details the archaeological collections housed at the University of Wyoming Archaeological Repository (UWAR) located in Laramie. The repository houses approximately 3 million artifacts from 15,000 different Wyoming sites as well as comparative, replica, experimental, and educational materials. We highlight our extensive suite of artifacts from across the state, which includes artifacts from all time periods from the Paleoindian to the Historic. Many of these objects are submitted through private donations, academic research, or are curated by contractors through Section 106 projects. We also discuss our partnerships with state, federal, and local agencies to complete education and outreach programs. These programs increase awareness and use of our archaeological collections in a variety of ways including hosting visiting researchers, loans to museums and historical societies, exhibit preparation, school group tours and classroom activity development, and an archaeological collections management class for undergraduates and graduates at the university. Finally, we show how we have used information from our own research on older collections to enhance modern investigations.

Taking the exhibition Art in the Streets, which was shown at The Geffen Contemporary at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles from 17 April to 8 August, 2011, as its main point of departure, the present article discusses street art's association with the institutions of the art world.

Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org) is an on-line and multilingual encyclopaedia that can be interactively updated by any user. It has become an increasingly popular and comprehensive source of up-to-date information. All museums should consider ensuring that they have an entry for informational and (indirectly) promotional purposes. As a minimum, the entry should include location information, a brief overview, correct categorization within Wikipedia and a link to the museum's Web site. A more comprehensive entry could include further, more detailed information on the museum's history, collections, organization, one or more photographs, etc. It should be noted that Wikipedia entries are intended to provide an independent and informational view, so direct promotional material should be avoided and used only on the museum's own Web site. An entry on Wikipedia can help by improving search engine rankings (especially Google), directing Web users to a museum Web site, etc.

Our demonstration at MW2006 is intended to give advice to museums on how to create an initial Wikipedia entry if there is none for the museum in question and how to improve the entry if one exists already. A tour of the English-language Wikipedia museums section (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Museums) can also be provided. It may even be possible to create and update entries during the demonstration itself.

The paper discusses the issues of choice, the process of acquiring and documenting ethnographic collections. Two aspects of a ‘price’ of museum object are in focus. Firstly, the real monetary price that includes various payments and transportation; more important, the problems encountered by an anthropologist who combines his fieldwork in indigenous community with collecting for museum.

Обсуждается два аспекта цены музейного предмета: из чего складывается материальная закупочная стоимость и, главное, чего стоит полевику совмещение собирательства с работой по основной экспедиционной тематике.

The aim of the project is to gain insight of current trends of image sharing within Smarts Culture (to define what is Smarts Culture) while examining the behaviour of amateur photography and visual storytelling proliferated by mobile technology within Museum experience. My intention is to produce outcome/s suited to the field of exploratory information graphics through examining a temporal snapshot of collected images through Instagram at Tate Modern. Currently intention of the project resides on testing different ideas such as; use of colours in photography (example; dominance of primary colours), time period (age of images), how does public frame images, popularity of an image, and grouping by already defined parameters of art such as (Photography, Paintings, Contemporary Art, Drawings and Installations).
The project is aimed at Museums who are currently working on redesigning the museum experience for visitors. Museums are moving away from a collective experience of a visit to more individual experience, constrained by structure and freedom alike. The project is also aimed at people interested in big cultural data sets, general public and potentially academia.

Science museums have increasingly experimented with bringing art into their exhibitions to attract and engage visitors. While the prevalence and popularity of such experiments is growing, research on the rationales for collaboration and their outcomes, as well as the challenges involved, remains scarce. This paper analyzes and discusses how art is used as part of engaging visitors in two contrasting exhibitions about the brain and neuroscience: one using art as illustration of ready-made science, the other inviting artists as co-curators in evoking a feeling of science in the making. Drawing on models of public engagement and art- science collaboration, it discusses how notions of science communication and visitor engagement are imagined and enacted in the two exhibitions, and how they relate to different ‘logics’, or rationales, of interdisciplinary collaboration.

In conjunction with Home of Metal and Capsule, this public symposium seeks to bring together researchers, policy makers, heritage and creative workers and musicians. We welcome contributions from fans and heritage consumers in response to their experience of the Home of Metal exhibitions and events which are scheduled for Summer 2019.

This article discusses the subjective and conditional nature of authenticity in artifacts at the Scandinavian Cultural Center and in general. Additionally, this paper explores the long-term globalization of the Scandinavian world and how it has not only been influenced by the rest of the world but also influenced the world as well. Finally, this article also discusses the continued curation of authenticity within the Scandinavian Cultural Center’s collection via the utilization of their PastPerfect 5.0 Database.
