With changing times, people are changing the way they connect with each other and receive information. In present times, people are connecting with each other anytime anywhere with the help of Social Networking Sites. Considering this change in the medium, traditional media, too, is adapting to the change, in order to connect with its audience and expand its reach. Theorists like Steven Chaffee and Miriam Metzger have observed that Internet has brought a decline in the traditional media agenda-setting and shift from elite power due to increased access and greater choice is seen post 2001. As the internet is becoming increasingly omnipresent, the standpoint of media as living and social environment is even more topical. This paper thus reviews the changing media ecology to study media and communication patterns, focusing on the major social media players in India. A presença de leigos em auxílio ao jornalista, como informante ou comentarista de reportagens, não é um fenômeno necessariamente novo no campo da Comunicação. Essa condição, ao contrário do que propõe um dos principais conceitos para Jornalismo Colaborativo, não se alterou, a despeito da propagação das tecnologias que ora impulsionam a Sociedade da Informação. Levantamento realizado em jornal diário e seu respectivo portal no município de Campinas, um dos mais desenvolvidos do país, aponta que leitores e internautas, quando muito, apenas se enquadram aos estreitos limites impostos a sua intervenção na produção e circulação da notícia. O imobilismo, neste sentido, tende a deslegitimar o jornalismo enquanto produtor de informações essenciais para a vida em sociedade, enfraquecendo a base de financiamento de uma atividade essencial ao exercício da democracia.

O crescimento das mídias sociais como meio de acesso às notícias traz cada vez mais desafios ao jornalismo em rede. É por links compartilhados nas redes sociais que mais da metade da população mundial com acesso à internet se informa, reduzindo o alcance das manchetes tradicionalmente selecionadas pelos jornalistas. Nas mídias sociais, algoritmos regulam os regimes de visibilidade da notícia, pulverizando a agenda noticiosa. O presente artigo, por meio de entrevistas em profundidade e da análise de conteúdo de posts e chamadas de primeira página dos três principais jornais de referência do país – Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo e O Estado de S.Paulo – discute até que ponto os jornalistas também não estariam contribuindo para a formação de múltiplas agendas no Facebook. // The growth of social media as a way to access news brings challenges to network journalism. Half of the world's population with Internet consume news through shared links on social media, reducing the reach of the headlines traditionally selected by journalists. On social media, algorithms regulate the news visibility, pulverizing the news agenda.
