Background: The goal of this article to is present and evaluate the clinical effectiveness of a new surgical approach using a coronally advanced flap performed during second stage implant surgery for the reconstruction of peri implant papillae and treatment of gingival recession of adjacent teeth.

RESUMEN Los tratamientos de implantes dentales se han convertido en un tratamiento cotidiano dentro de la práctica diaria, por lo que la presencia de defectos del reborde alveolar que se da por la reabsorción ósea ha conllevado al desarrollo de muchos procedimientos de aumento óseo con la intención de mejorar la cantidad y calidad del hueso, para así lograr un tratamiento de implantes dentales predecible. El objetivo de esta revisión de la literatura es la de presentar los principales procedimientos referidos al manejo de los defectos horizontales del reborde alveolar, que siempre representan un desafío para los clínicos. ABSTRACT Dental implant treatments have become a daily treatment within daily practice, so that the presence of defects of the alveolar ridge that results from bone resorption has led to the development of many bone augmentation procedures with the intention of improving the quantity and quality of the bone to achieve a predictable dental implant treatment. The objective of this review of the literature is to present the main procedures related to the management of horizontal defects of the alveolar ridge, which are always a challenge for clinicians.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is considered to be one of the most fatal diseases worldwide, owing to its late diagnosis and lack of availability of established reliable biomarkers. The aim of this study was to highlight the significance of immunosuppressive cytokines as potential biomarkers in OSCC. Whole unstimulated saliva was collected from each individual (30 OSCC patients and 33 age-and gender-matched healthy controls). Immunosuppressive cytokines, including IL-4, IL-10, IL-13, and IL-1RA, were evaluated in each sample using Luminex multianalyte profiling (xMAP) technology on BioPlex instrument. Our results showed that all the studied salivary cytokines were raised in OSCC patients as compared to controls, where IL-10 and IL-13 salivary levels showed statistically significant difference (p = .004 and p = .010, respectively). Mean levels of salivary cytokines in three histologically defined OSCC categories, compared employing one-way ANOVA, showed that salivary levels of IL-1RA were highest in patients having poorly differentiated OSCC tumors as compared to those having moderately and well-differentiated tumors (p = .000 and p = .002, respectively). Among OSCC individuals, duration of smokeless tobacco correlated positively with IL-1RA (p = .036). We conclude that salivary levels of immunosuppressive cytokines, IL-4, IL-10, IL-13, and IL-1RA, could prove to be potential biomarkers of OSCC and can be further investigated as markers of early detection and disease progression.

This paper aims to highlight the detrimental periodontal condition in patients with Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome (PLS) and the pivotal role of a Periodontist in the diagnosis of the condition. PLS is also known as palmo-plantar keratosis (PPK) with an unusual periodontal status. Uncontrolled early-onset periodontitis, which affects both primary and permanent dentitions alike, is a hallmark of the syndrome. PLS patients exhibit defected neutrophil chemotactic function due to substandard activity of Cathepsin C (CTSC) gene. The result is the failure of elimination of periodontal pathogens that leads to severe periodontal destruction. We report a case of an 11 years old Pakistani girl affected with PLS whose parents are consanguineously married. Since PLS is a rare autosomal recessive disorder and multiple consanguinity in a family, increases the risk of the occurrence of the syndrome in the off springs, the case report also highlights the importance of premarital genetic mapping and conception counseling for the families.

Aim: To evaluate the behavior of the alveolar ridge split technique in a series of surgical cases. Materials and Methods:  One hundred and fifty implants were included in this study for a total of 60 patients. The surgeries consisted of a mid-crestal incision and subsequent bone management with a piezoelectric system. The implants were placed after the alveolar bone was expanded by about 3mm and present bony defects were filled by a mixture of 50% autogenous bone and a xenograft (Bio-Oss®). Bone fracture of the buccal alveolar plate occurred in 8 cases, and those were stabilized with osteosynthesis screws. Implants were simultaneously placed in 140 cases, out of them 4 failures occurred due to membrane exposition. Results: The osseointegration success was estimated to be 97.5%. When it comes to the link of disease related to periodontium to that of adverse pregnancy outcomes, a need can arise if a significant cause-effect relationship does exist or not between them. Aim: The study was aimed to determine the association of periodontal health status in pregnant women with the occurrence of preterm low birth weight (LBW) infants in Vadodara, Gujarat.
