Prospect of waterway in Sylhet city was evaluated in this paper by modeling performance. A Binary Logit model has been developed in this context using the data collected from a stated preference (SP) survey conducted on the people commuting from Tuker Bazar to Bandar Bazar. Under the SP survey the respondents were presented with hypothetical scenarios on waterway along with existing roadway to state their choice. In hypothetical scenarios, river boat with different level of service in terms of boat size, security system, travel time, travel cost etc. was considered keeping roadway same as now. From the model output it was observed that, travel cost, travel time, frequency of boat, comfort, safety provision, boat capacity and number of stoppage control the choice of water way to travel from Bandar Bazar to Tuker bazar and vice versa. Socio-economic characteristics (age, gender and marital status) of the respondents also have significant impact on their travel route choice. Though the estimated model has few limitations but can be a guideline to formulate waterway related policy to reduce the traffic congestion.

Automatic control in vehicles" is a unique speed governor for vehicles at specified zones. This system ensures that the car will travel at or below the speed limit specified at designated areas. Transmitters are installed at the entry point of specified zones, primarily on the speed sign boards to reduce project implementation cost. The Transmitter consists of an encoder and a RF transmitter module with 433 MHz carrier frequency and ASK modulation which transmits the speed limit of that area. The Receivers are installed in all vehicles. A Receiver consists of a decoder, RF receiver module and a micro controller "89S51" along with sensors viz. Alcohol sensor, collision sensor and theft sensor. Upon the detection of drunken driving or collision the car decelerates to a stop. The Receiver has a GSM module which sends the message to the respected mobile user upon the event of collision, theft and drunk driving. In the microcontroller, the speed of the vehicle is compared to the speed limit of that area and the speed is then accordingly controlled.
