Mykola Riabchuk. «Khokhols», «Little Russians» and «Banderites»: Russian Stereotypes of Ukrainians and Their Political Instrumentalization. The paper contends that the Russian stereotypes of Ukrainians reflect unequal relations between the two nations deter- mined by the imperial status of one of them and subaltern status of the other. Two major stereotypes are singled out and analyzed as ideolo- gical and discursive tools of imperial dominance – those of backward, uneducated «khokhols» and of more literate but ideologically sub- versive «banderites». Political instrumentalization of these stereotypes during the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war and Ukrainian response it are examined in the last part of the paper. Key words: colonialism, ethnic stereotypes, political propaganda, Russo-Ukrainian war.
