Sistrum

Erken Tunç Çağı’nda Orta Anadolu’da yaşamış ve zengin bir uygarlığa ev sahipliği yapan Hattilerin, günlük hayatlarında ve mezar buluntularında kültsel işlevleri olan güneş kurslarının önemli bir yeri vardır. Çalışmaya konu olan güneş kurslarının, malzeme, teknik, bezeme ve formları açısından incelenmesi, çağdaşları ve diğer çağlarda bulunan eserlerle karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenerek bilgi edinilmesi ve bu kült nesnelerle çağdaş seramik formların oluşturulması amaçlanmıştır. M.Ö. 3. bin yıl içinde ve M.Ö. 2. bin yıl başlarında, Erken Tunç Çağı döneminde, İç Anadolu’da Kızılırmak yayı içinde yaşadığı düşünülen Hatti uygarlığı, Horoztepe ve Alacahöyük mezar buluntularıyla dönemin sanat anlayışını en iyi şekilde yansıtmaktadır. Bu mezarlardan ve Hattilerin kültürünü ve dini inançlarını benimsediği düşünülen Hititlere ait tabletlerden, Hattilerin düşünce ve inanç sistemi hakkında birçok bilgiye ulaşılmaktadır.
Çalışma kapsamında biçimsel ve işlevsel olarak incelenen güneş kursları, Alacahöyük kral mezarlarında ele geçirilen güneş kurslarının ikonografik ve ikonolojik açıklamaları üzerinden incelenerek sınırlandırılmıştır. Güneşi ve evreni sembolize eden güneş kursları, üzerlerinde bulunan hayvan heykelcikleriyle tanrıları betimlediklerinden dolayı Hattiler için önemli bir yere sahiptir. Güneş kursları, günlük hayatta dini törenlerde rahipler tarafından kullanılmasının yanı sıra, Hattilerin ölü gömme adetlerinde de kullanılmıştır. Prens ve prenseslerin mezarlarında kullanılan bu kült nesnelerinin günümüze kadar ulaşmasında Alacahöyük kral mezarlarının önemli bir yeri bulunmaktadır. Güneş kursları kendi çağının içerisinde ve kendi çağının dışında yer alan diğer sanat eserleriyle değerlendirildiğinde benzerlikler göstermektedir. Gerek güneş kurslarının üzerinde bulunan birimler gerekse bezeme özellikleri birçok uygarlık tarafından kullanılmıştır. Günümüzde de popüler Türk kültürünün içine dâhil edilen güneş kursları sembol olarak varlıklarını devam ettirmektedir. Bu özellikleriyle güneş kurslarının hem geçmişte hem de gelecekte birçok uygarlığı etkisi altına aldığı ve birçok sanat alanına esin kaynağı olduğu görülmektedir.-----
Hattians that lived in Early Bronze Age in Central Anatolia, rich civilization hosts, has an important role in the sun discs cultic function in their daily lives and tomb findings. It is aimed to build contemporary ceramic forms about to the sun disks, materials, technique, decoration and analyzed in terms of forms available information examined in comparison with works in contemporary and other time lines. 3000 B.C. and in the beginning of 2000 B.C., the Early Bronze Age period,  Hattian civilization lived around the Red River in Central Anatolia, Horoztepe and Alacahoyuk tomb findings reflect the art of understanding the period in the best way. These tombs and hittite tablets which is thought to be adopted Hattians’ culture and religion shows many information about view and belief system of Hattians. Sun discs, examined formally and functionally in our study, seized in Alacahoyuk royal tombs was limited iconographic and iconological statement. Sun discs symbolizing the sun and the universe, because they describe gods with animal figurines on them has an important role for the Hattians. Sun discs used by priests in rituals in everyday life as well, is also used in the burial of Hattie. Alacahoyuk royal tombs are important in achieving the cult object used in prince and princess tombs until today. The sun discs show similarities when considered by works of art located outside of its own era and in its own era shows similarities. Both units on the sun discs as well as decorative features have been used by many civilizations. Today, popular Turkish sun discs has been included into the culture continues to exist as a symbol. It is observed that the properties of the sun discs’ under the influence of many civilizations both past and future.

Agiter le sistre pour la déesse : reconstituer la production sonore d’un idiophone (Résumé)

Dans l’étude des instruments de musique antiques, les percussions ont bien souvent été laissées de côtés. Trop modestes pour le musicologue, difficiles à appréhender pour l’historien, il n’existe pas d’ouvrage de synthèse sur le sujet. Cet article propose, au travers de l’exemple du sistre isiaque utilisé dans le monde gréco-romain, quelques réflexions de méthode dans l’approche des différentes sources historiques disponibles (archéologiques, iconographiques et littéraires) à propos de cet idiophone. En effet, seule une démarche pluridisciplinaire peut permettre de se rapprocher au mieux de ce que pouvait être le son de cet instrument de musique et de ses contextes d’apparition.

Shaking the sistrum for the goddess: restore the sound produced by an idiophone (Summary)

In the study of ancient music instruments, percussion have often been left sides. Too small for the musicologist, difficult to grasp for the historian, there is no comprehensive work on the subject. This paper proposes, through the example of Isis sistrum used in the Greco-Roman world, some reflections method in the approach of different historical sources available (archaeological, iconographic and literary) about this idiophone. Only a multidisciplinary approach can help to bring the best of what could be the sound of a musical instrument and its contexts of occurrence.

Fragments of several identical women holding sistrum and menat necklaces have been found at Deir el-Bahari. These representations were carved on sandstone, erased and recarved after the Amarna period. Proportions and depiction are here very similar to the msw nsw of Thutmose III at Karnak, where they appear behind the king as he dedicates splendid offerings to Amun-Re on the north wall of the corridor with the Annals. Both scenes are studied and their meaning explored. The fragments, certainly from Thutmose III temple at Deir el-Bahari, may have come from his Hathor shrine.

Résumé  :

Attesté à partir du IIe s. av. J.-C. et porté par le développement du culte d’Isis et de sa gens dans le monde gréco-romain, le sistre arqué d’origine égyptienne devient assez tôt, au Ier s. de n. è., l’un des emblèmes phares des isiaques, et ce durant toute la période impériale. À la fois instrument de musique, objet de culte et attribut politique et religieux, cet idiophone s’impose dès la période augustéenne comme un marqueur identitaire, utilisé et perçu comme tel aussi bien par les dévots d’Isis que par les autres individus, qu’il s’agisse des poètes de la cour impériale ou des chrétiens.

Le sistre devient dès lors l’élément récurrent d’un discours littéraire et iconographique partagé entre ceux qui prennent part à ce culte très spécifique et leurs opposants. Une évolution qu’il s’agit d’expliciter, le sistre ayant visiblement remplacé dans ce rôle le basileion d’Isis, marqueur visuel par excellence de l’identité isiaque durant l’époque hellénistique. S’il est avant tout représenté comme attribut de la déesse Isis, il est souvent « porté » par des êtres humains. Prêtres ou simples dévots, jamais « musiciens », le statut de ces individus demeure encore très flou.

L’historiographie traditionnelle présente systématiquement tout sistre retrouvé dans le monde gréco-romain comme isiaque. Cette communication propose de revenir sur l’objet sistre en tant que production manufacturée, les textes littéraires décrivant l’instrument et sa sonorité étant relativement peu nombreux. Par bonheur, l’archéologie offre un nombre d’exemplaires de sistres relativement important pour la seule période gréco-romaine, en particulier dans la partie occidentale de l’Empire. Le plus souvent de bronze, l’instrument semble posséder des spécificités par rapport à tous les autres types de sistres connus dans l’Antiquité, et notamment par rapport au sistre pharaonique dont il est l’héritier direct. Cette analyse repose sur trois critères principaux : traitement et assemblage du métal, mécanisme sonore de l’instrument, ornementation de l’objet. La mise au point d’une typologie détaillée de l’objet devrait permettre de mieux préciser ce qu’est un « sistre isiaque » et fait partie de nos objectifs de thèse.

Si le travail d’inventaire réalisé jusqu’ici montre une remarquable homogénéité de forme et de fonctionnement pour la majorité des exemplaires retrouvés, certains sistres s’éloignent plus largement de ce modèle canonique, le plus souvent aux limites du monde gréco-romain lui-même. Au sein du corpus des sistres considérés avec certitude comme isiaques, la variété de taille ou d’ornementation est très importante et mérite d’être signalée. Cet axe de travail peut permettre de dessiner, à terme, une cartographie de la diffusion de l’instrument, et d’identifier d’éventuels lieux de production ainsi que certaines spécificités locales.
