moreFamily and community capacity building projects in Tasmania are attempting to address the disadvantage of communities marginalised by socio-economic and other influences. Collaborations between the projects, community members and groups, and education and training organisations, have resulted in a leadership process which has fostered re- engagement with learning in these disadvantaged communities. In one community Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Tasmania has offered access to Certificate II in Community Services (Children's Services) to volunteers in a children's school holiday activities program. In another community, the Adult Literacy and Basic Education (ALBE) section of TAFE offered a Return to Study course facilitated through a family capacity building program. A third community was offered computer classes for single parents on welfare benefits.
