L'insorgenza di alcune patologie dell'apparato stomatognatico è spesso favorita da particolari posizioni viziate assunte dai pazienti durante il sonno. Le pressioni anomale, che si esercitano sulla mandibola e sui denti di questi pazienti, con il concorso di altri fattori, determinano patologie di tipo articolare, muscolare, occlusale, dentale, parodontale ed ortodontico, spesso associate ad alterazioni della simmetria del volto.
Questi quadri patologici non rispondono in modo adeguato alle terapie convenzionali sintomatiche, che non ne rimuovono la causa, ma vanno incontro a risoluzione o a notevole miglioramento con la posizione di decubito assunta durante il sonno.

The onset of some pathologies of the stomatognathic system is often favored by particular spoiled positions taken by patients during sleep. The abnormal pressures, which are exerted on the jaws and teeth of these patients, with the help of other factors, determine joint, muscle, occlusal, dental, periodontal and orthodontic pathologies, often associated with alterations in the symmetry of the face.
These pathological pictures do not respond adequately to conventional symptomatic therapies, which do not remove the cause, but undergo resolution or considerable improvement with the decubitus position assumed during sleep.

SUMMARY Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a frequent finding in cases of facial trauma or dental malpractice, and legal claims for TMD damage have been increased over the years. Temporomandibular disorders assessment in the medical legal setting is complicated by the peculiarities of these disorders, whose symptoms are heterogeneous, fluctuant, and recognise a multifactorial origin. A systematic Med-line search in the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed database pointed out that, despite the medical legal aspects of the dental profession are gaining a growing attention, there is a paucity of literature dealing with patients with TMD assess-ment. For these reasons, evidence-based knowledge in the field of TMD diagnosis and treatment was summarised in this article with the aim of providing useful suggestions for a medical legal approach to TMD.

An electronic search within the PubMed, Medline, Science Direct and Google scholar were performed using the MeSH terms. Different treatment modalities from conservative treatment to surgical intervention with varying success rates have been reported. Occlusal appliance therapy is conservative and often the initial treatment for patients who develop temporomandibular joint symptoms. This literature review is aimed at addressing the etiology and recent views on prosthodontic management of disc displacement disorders.

La depresión representa un gran impacto económico. Se prevén para el periodo 2011-2030 pérdidas de USD 16.3 billones en Estados Unidos, en la India el 20% de la producción económica se destinará al manejo de los trastornos mentales y, en el mismo periodo, China perderá USD 4.5 billones (Grazier, 2019). Esto hace necesario determinar la relación de la depresión con tinnitus, vértigo, TTM y síntomas físicos, lo cual genera un impacto negativo en las empresas. Se realizó un estudio observacional mediante la herramienta CDI/TTM examinando 94 pacientes que asistieron a la clínica de articulación temporomandibular. La presencia de síntomas depresivos con tinnitus, dolor de cabeza por TTM y síntomas físicos no específicos (SFNE) presentaron valores de asociación significativos con p de 0.002, 0.003 y 0.000, siendo factores de riesgo para la depresión. Los SFNE y el tinnitus presentan alta asociación con la presencia de depresión.

To answer a clinical research question: "is there any association between features of dental occlusion and temporomandibular disorders (TMD)?" A systematic literature review was performed. Inclusion was based on: 1. the type of study, viz., clinical studies on adults assessing the association between TMD (e.g., signs, symptoms, specific diagnoses) and features of dental occlusion by means of single or multiple variable analysis, and 2. their internal validity, viz., use of clinical assessment approaches to TMD diagnosis. The search accounted for 25 papers included in the review, 10 of which with multiple variable analysis. Temporomandibular disorders have been identified as the most important cause of pain in the facial region. Pain relief and reestablishment of normal masticatory function are the main goals of conservative management of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). Laser therapy is a part of the treatment modality that have demonstrated to have an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and biostimulating effect. The LLLT is a non invasive , quick and safe, non pharmacological intervention that may be beneficial for patient with TMDs. This review article projects the use of LLLT for management of temporomandibular disorders ,its mode of action and also gives a review on various studies conducted to assess its efficacy on pain management.

This study examined the relationship between anxiety, depression and bruxism in 99 patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Patients were divided into two groups: 58 patients with bruxism and 41 without bruxism. Symptoms of TMD were evaluated according to the Craniomandibular Index. The psychological condition of patients was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scales (HADS) and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA). The mean anxiety and depression scores (HADS and HAMA) for patients with bruxism were statistically significant higher in patients with bruxism compared with those without bruxism. Thus, there may be an association between bruxism and higher levels of anxiety and/or depression in patients with TMD.

Introduction: Oral health care systems for older people tend to be reducing tooth loss and saving functional dentition. The elderly Vietnamese had to live under challenging conditions and were not entitled to any dental care for over 30 years due to the Vietnam War. The aim of the current study was to investigate tooth loss and related risk factors among elderly Vietnamese aged 65-74 years old. Methodology: The sample study was 258 elderly Vietnamese aged 65–74 years old. Each absent tooth was registered as a tooth loss. Risk factors were evaluated based on the Oral Health Questionnaire for adults (WHO, 2013). Results: The mean tooth loss for the sample was 7.6 (±7.0). 27.1% of participants had lost 1–3 teeth, 23.6% 4–6 teeth, 27.1% 7–16 teeth and 13.6% >16 teeth; 8.5% had full dentition.
