Abstract
Purpose – The aim of this paper is to reconcile the diverging opinions among Islamic economists toward the concept of scarcity and to present a holistic model of scarcity and abundance from a Qur’anic
perspective.
Design/methodology/approach – Analyses of both interviews and texts were performed. The method in studying scarcity from Islamic perspective consisted of semi-structured interview with five experts in the field of Islamic economics and development.
Findings – One major implication of this study is that the concept of scarcity as it is postulated by
mainstream economics tends to clash with the Islamic worldview, as it does not have any reference in
Islam. Scarcity can act as a phenomenon in economic activities but not as the defining concept in Islamic
economics.
Practical implications – Practically, this paper will contribute to the making of the first lecture of
the course of Islamic economics.
Social implications – Socially, this paper will contribute to the process of transforming the science of economics and Islamic economics for a sustainable tomorrow.
Originality/value – This paper is a fundamental paper that addresses some aspects from critical realism and transcendental idealism into the making of Islamic economics. Not only that the discussion on the concept of scarcity in Islamic economics is limited and seems to be lacking; in addition, this paper offers a critical discussion on the validity of the concept of scarcity in economics from a critical perspective.

I argue that the dominant historiography has incorrectly portrayed the American Fourierists’ trans-class program and support for private property as conservative when these positions flowed more from a radical commitment to unite all classes in an egalitarian society. The article demonstrates that in practice, however, the Fourierists did not rely equally on all classes but rather drew their membership and support from the middle class.

Bu çalışma; Ulus Baker’in Transandantal Felsefeden yola çıkarak sinema üzerinden kavramsallaştırdığı transandantal imaj’ın, fotoğraf sanatındaki karşılığının Dario Mitidieri’nin Kayıp Aile Portreleri serisi üzerinden çözümlenmesini amaçlamaktadır. Bu bağlamda öncelikli olarak estetik obje ve fotoğrafik imajın maddi bütünlüğü incelenmektedir. Estetik obje, doğası gereği, duyularla algılanan ve maddi bir bütünlüğe sahip olan bir sanatsal yapıttır. Görme duyusuyla maddi olan imaj ve imaj içerisinde gösterilen nesneler algılanmakta ve estetik bilgi ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu fenomenal olguya karşın, fotoğrafik dil yetisi içerisinde gösterilmeyen imajlar’ın da estetik bilgi edinimini sağlayabilmektedir. Transandantal imaj anlamına gelen bu olgu, deneyimi mümkün kılan fakat deneyle elde edilemeyecek türden bir bilgi zeminini tanımlamak adına kullanılan transandantal kavramına dayanmaktadır. Baker’in sinema üzerinden kavramsallaştırdığı transandantal imaj, maddi bir bütünlüğe sahip estetik obje içerisinde gösterilmeyen fakat sadece düşünceyle kavranabilen imajlarıdır. Bu kavram sinema üzerinden kavramsallaştırılmış olmasına karşın, fotoğraf sanatında da örneklerine rastlamak mümkündür. Bu bağlamda çalışmada; Mitidieri’nin Lübnan’da bulunan mülteci kampında çektiği Kayıp Aile Portreleri (2015) adlı serisinde yer alan 12 fotoğraf içerisinden farklı yöntemlerle transandantal imaj kavramından faydalanıldığı saptanan 3 fotoğraf amaca yönelik örneklem alma yoluyla belirlemiştir. Bu fotoğraflar transandantal imaj kavramı perspektifinden betimsel analiz yöntemiyle incelenmektedir.
