The behaviour of three different liquid-gas slug flows (water, carboxymethyl cellulose and activated sludge) in a vertical tube was studied using a high speed camera (HSC). Experiments were performed using different flow rates and two tube diameters (6.3 and 9.9 mm). The observed difference in behaviour of the ascending gas slugs can be explained by the difference in viscosity of the fluids (Newtonian and non-Newtonian). Moreover, it was observed that the degree of coalescence of gas slugs is lower for non-Newtonian liquids and they behave like a succession of slugs without actually coalescing into a single larger gas slug. Finally, gas slug rising velocities were also extracted, but no subsequent difference in the rising velocities of the different fluids was found.

Metal-alloys tubes are used in the falling-film evaporator of the multi-effect distillation (MED) that is the dominant and efficient thermal seawater desalination process. On the other hand, polymers are low-cost, easy to fabricate into tubes, and highly corrosion-resistant, but have low thermal conductivity. The thin-walled structure is widely used as an energy absorption system due to low cost, easy availability and lightweight. Furthermore, the energy absorption performance of a multi-cell thin-walled tube has been reported to perform better compared to a single thin-walled tube. This paper addresses the energy absorption capacities of single and multi-cell thin-walled circular tubes under quasi-static lateral loading. The quasi-static compressive lateral loading test was performed to identify the deformation behaviour and energy absorption of singular and multi-cell thin-walled circular tubes. Background: When a neonate is born prematurely and admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the mother usually experiences high levels of anxiety that can disrupt the maternal bond, as well as the natural course of neonatal development. Cavitations’ phenomenon and water hammer fall in group of critical characteristics of turbo machinery and are a pernicious phenomenon that may occur during their exploitation. Water hammer appears in case when pressures change as a result of rapidly changing water flow velocity. As a preventive measure by water hammer is slowdown of the flow velocity of the water and all recommendations based on this purpose are categorized into: slowdown water flow velocity, protection from pressure drop, etc. In this paper are analyzed the phenomenon of cavitations’ and water hammer through the mathematical model and based in the calculations are taken suitable measures in order to avoid such phenomena in the main drinking water supply system for residents of the city of Prishtina, Podujeva, Fushe Kosova and Obiliqi.
