Voltage quality is a one of the major concerns in distribution systems. Distributed Generations (DGs) have the potential to improve voltage quality, if optimally planned and operated. Considering the problem of DG siting and sizing, this paper aims at integrating technical factors, particularly voltage quality, in planning of DGs. Hence, a methodology is proposed which optimizes voltage quality in the presence of DGs and can be used as one of the objectives in a multiobjective problem or as an intermediate stage in usual DG planning. Modified voltage quality indices are proposed which consider factors including voltage profile, voltage variation due to DG disconnection, voltage regulation and voltage unbalance. The indices are defined in such a manner suitable for three-phase unbalanced networks. The system voltage quality is assessed by a new comprehensive voltage quality index. By applying this index, the DGs locating and penetration problem is formulated to improve system voltage quality. The method is tested on IEEE 13-bus feeder which is an inherently unbalanced network.

This paper presents a novel control strategy for the compensation of voltage quality issues in power system networks with AC drives. Voltage quality is one of the key parameter for power engineers and to deliver the power with good quality should be given at most priority. Voltage quality mitigation in power system network is done by employing dynamic voltage restorer (DVR). DVR consists of power switches and power switches are to be controlled. DVR in this paper is controlled using a novel control strategy. A novel control strategy can effectively control DVR by improving voltage quality reducing the adverse effects of voltage sag and voltage swell in power system networks. The paper presents the DVR controlled with novel control strategy for electrical machine (induction motor) drive load application.

In this paper the performance of the electrical network of Egypt is studied by considering a small part on the network (Abu Hummus city). The transmission network of Abu Hummus city was created for 66 kV, 11 kV, and 0.4 kV in the digital simulation and electrical network calculation (DIgSILENT power factory software) to study the voltage profiles. The load flow operational analysis was performed to obtain the voltage magnitudes at every bus bar. The voltage magnitudes in 11 kV and 0.4 kV networks were 10% to 15% less than the nominal value due to overloading off the transmission lines and the voltage magnitudes in 66 kV was within permissible limits. By using automatic tap-changing transformer or Static VAR System, the main idea of this paper is to obtain the voltage profiles at every bus bar to improve the voltage quality of the networks, so as to achieve better voltage profiles on the low voltage side without much effect on high voltage side under various operating conditions.
