While most current interactive surfaces use only the position of the finger on the surface as the input source, previous work suggests using the finger orientation for enriching the input space. Thus, an understanding of the physiological restrictions of the hand is required to build effective interactive techniques that use finger orientation. We conducted a study to derive the ergonomic constraints for using finger orientation as an effective input source. In a controlled experiment, we systematically manipulated finger pitch and yaw while performing a touch action. Participants were asked to rate the feasibility of the touch action. We found that finger pitch and yaw do significantly affect perceived feasibility and 21.1% of the touch actions were perceived as impossible to perform. Our results show that the finger yaw input space can be divided into the comfort and non-comfort zones. We further present design considerations for future interfaces using finger orientation.

The present study investigates the effects of in bore-yaw phenomenon on lateral throw-off and aerodynamic jump behavior for small caliber rotational symmetric (both in configuration and mass distribution) projectiles launched horizontally at supersonic firing speeds and various altitudes from high-subsonic air vehicles. The ammunition used is the caliber .50 API M8 bullet type firing from M2 machine automatic gun. The projectile is considered to be eccentrically engraved, tilted as it enters the rifling, and it is assumed that the tilt persists throughout its passage through the rifled barrel of the used weapon system. The modified linear 6-DOF flight simulation modeling is applied for the bullet free-flight trajectory predictions. The coupled epicyclic pitching and yawing motion analysis for the first 100 m of the examined trajectories are taken into account.

In this paper, a yaw moment controller of which parameters are dependent on the vehicle forward velocity is designed for improving vehicle handling and stability. Robustness of the controller is enhanced with considering the parameter uncertainties arising from tyre cornering stiffness and the actuator saturation limitations resulting from some physical constraints and tyre–road conditions into the controller design process. The design of the controller is achieved by solving finite numbers of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). ...

There is an increasing need for XY compliant parallel micromanipulators (CPMs) providing good performance characteristics such as large motion range, well-constrained cross-axis coupling, and parasitic rotation. Decoupled topology design of the CPMs can easily realize these merits without increasing the difficulty of controlling. This paper proposes an improved 4-PP model on the basis of a classical 4-PP model and both of them are selected for manufacturing and testing to verify the effectiveness of the improvement. It has shown from experimental results that there is a large improvement on the performances of improved 4-PP compliant parallel manipulator (CPM): large range of motion up to 5 mm × 5 mm in the unidirection in the dimension of 311 mm × 311 mm × 24 mm, smaller compliance fluctuation (only 36.63% of that of the initial 4-PP model), smaller cross-axis coupling (only 28.10% of that of the initial 4-PP model generated by a single-axis 5 mm actuation), smaller in-plane parasi...
