Funkcjonujący w Polsce klasyczny model krajoznawstwa, bazujący na tradycji, dorobku naukowym i społecznym, a także oparty na wiedzy o kraju lub jego regionie, powinien uwzględniać zmiany i procesy zachodzące w świecie zglobalizowanej turystyki masowej uwikłanej w system i ideologię prowzrostową. Celem artykułu jest uzasadnienie tezy, iż krajoznawstwo jako rodzaj ekoznawstwa stosowanego wnosi nową, krytyczną perspektywę poznawczą i aksjologiczną do konceptualizacji turystyki krajoznawczej. Część pierwsza artykułu – „Krajoznawstwo w niezrównoważonym świecie turystyki”, skupia się na terminologicznym rozróżnieniu pojęć „krajoznawstwo” i „turystyka” oraz społecznych funkcjach krajoznawstwa i odnosi się do niekontrolowanego, a jednocześnie wywołującego falę krytyki, wzrostu turystyki. Część druga artykułu – „W kierunku zrównoważonej turystyki krajoznawczej”, stanowić będzie dyskusję o reorientacji krajoznawstwa na zrównoważenie, która ma otwierać nowe perspektywy dla turystyki krajoznawczej w walce o osiągnięcie celów zrównoważonego rozwoju. Krajoznawstwo w swych działaniach ma bowiem ważną rolę do odegrania w toczącej się debacie wokół zmian klimatycznych, a szerzej kryzysu ekologicznego, który wiąże się z niszczeniem dziedzictwa przyrodniczego i kulturowego w dobie antropocenu.

Among the fastest growing branches of the world economy, tourism is considered to be one of the main ones. It provides an opportunity to travel and explore the surrounding reality, including the diverse landscape. One of the most popular forms of tourism is still active tourism, which has a mass range and thus offers a more accessible educational offer in the field of natural and cultural heritage, history or geography. In Poland this is referred as 'krajoznawstwo'. The concept has not yet found an equivalent name in English, but it is very much related to tourism. In the Polish capital of Greater Poland region-Poznan, the area around Lake Malta is one of the areas where one can see many objects of interest for people who collect information about the area in the context of gathering knowledge about the country and the region. Not only a geographer or a biologist, but also all those who are comprehensively interested in the natural and cultural heritage, and in the future even in the history of the local participants in the Olympic Games, will find some information there. The main goal of the study is to show that 'krajoznawstwo' has many features in common with active tourism and it is difficult to be translated into English, where there is no clear 109 equivalent word. The second goal is to present the area of the Malta Lake in Poznan as a case study, a place for the realization of sightseeing interests and active tourism.

The main goal of the manuscript is an attempt to show that contemporary trends in tourism are based on forms in which cognitive, adventure and educational tourism is becoming more and more important. All these forms are based on the natural, cultural and historical heritage of the regions. In Poland, "krajoznawstwo" is an important trend, which for years has been based on the educational, cognitive and active tourism functions. It turns out that it is very difficult to find an equivalent of this word in English, but the message "get to know your country" can be carried out anywhere, in any part of the world. We decided to use the word "touring" in the text.
