PURPOSE To investigate the sealing properties of root fillings with resin-coated gutta-percha cones and a methacrylate-based resin endodontic sealer with and without an accelerator component in root canals subjected to immediate or delayed post space preparation. METHODS Forty-eight extracted human teeth with single straight root canals were treated endodontically. Specimens were then assigned to four groups of 10 teeth each (n=10). After autoclaving, the following operative procedures were carried out under strict aseptic conditions. In Group 1 the root canals were filled with resin-coated gutta-percha cones and a methacrylate based resin endodontic sealer (EndoREZ). Post space preparations were performed 2 minutes after the sealer had set. In Group 2 the root canals were filled as in Group 1 but with the addition of a chemical accelerator. AIM: This clinical report presents a rare case of maxillary central incisor with two separate roots.BACKGROUND: Unusual morphology of the roots and root canals may exist in any tooth. Recognition of the dental anatomy and its variations is necessary for successful endodontic therapy. It is well known that maxillary incisors are usually single-rooted teeth.CASE REPORT: The root canals were instrumented with conventional hand files and Gates Glidden and obturated by using the lateral technique. Recall radiograph after 1 year shows the healing process of the preoperative apical periodontitis.CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Clinicians should be aware of unexpected root canal morphology when performing root canal therapy. The present case demonstrated the importance of accurate preoperative radiograph and adequate access preparation.

The aim of this study was to compare the resistance of endodontically treated teeth with intraradicular retainer different amounts of remaining coronal structure. Fifty freshly extracted maxillary canines were endodontically treated and randomly assigned to five groups (n=10), as follows: group 1 (control) = teeth with custom cast post and core; group 2 = teeth without remaining coronal structure; group 3, 4 and 5 = teeth with 1 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm of remaining coronal structure, respectively. All specimens in groups 2 to 5 were restored with prefabricated post and resin core. The teeth were embedded in acrylic resin and the fracture strength was measured on a universal testing machine at 45 degrees to the long axis of the tooth until failure. Data were analyzed statistically by one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's test. There was no significant differences (p>0.05) between the control group and group 2, and between groups 3, 4 and 5 (p>0.05). Control group and group 2 had significantly higher resistance strength than groups 3, 4 and 5 (p<0.00001). The findings of this study showed that teeth without remaining coronal structure had significantly higher fracture strength than those with remaining coronal structure (1 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm). When the dental crown was not completely removed, the amount of remaining coronal dentin did not significantly affect the fracture strength of endodontically treated teeth with intraradicular retainer.

The use of SCT in this rare case greatly contributed toward making a confirmatory diagnosis and successful endodontic management. To compare apical microleakage of extracted, single-rooted teeth obturated with thermoplasticized injectable gutta-percha using two different endodontic sealers (calcium-hydroxide and resin based). The objective of this research was to determine if gutta-percha points with calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] improve the apical seal after root canal filling and if the master point does it alone. Human single recently extracted teeth were biomechanically prepared and the root canals filled by the lateral condensation technique with ZOE and gutta-percha points, with or without calcium hydroxide. The teeth were placed into a 2% methylene blue solution in a vacuum environment for 24 h after which they were processed for stereomicroscope evaluation. Better results were observed with the teeth filled with gutta-percha points with calcium hydroxide (p=0.01). We conclude that these new points make a better apical seal and that these results can also be obtained with the calcium hydroxide master point associated with regular ones (p=0.05).

To describe the successful non-surgical endodontic management of a permanent maxillary lateral incisor tooth with four root canals. Aberrant morphology of root canals can occur in any tooth, including maxillary lateral incisors. In the presented case, clinical examination and radiographs clearly depicted the presence of four root canals in a right maxillary lateral incisor. The differential diagnosis included fusion, gemination, dens invaginatus or a combination of these. The report emphasises the need for attention during root canal treatment of maxillary lateral incisors. • Clinicians should be aware of the variable root canal anatomy in maxillary lateral incisor teeth. • Careful examination of radiographs and the internal anatomy of teeth are essential prerequisites for successful root canal treatment. • Four root canals in maxillary lateral incisors is a possibility.

The object of this study was to determine the set of sealers under simulated clinical versus bench-top conditions. One hundred twenty extracted teeth were divided into four groups (Roth&#39;s, Tubuliseal, Sealapex, AH26). Canal preparation and lateral condensation were performed with the four sealers (30 teeth each). Teeth were placed into 100% humidity at 37 degrees C. The same mix of sealer on a glass slab was stored within the same environment. After 1 to 8 wk the teeth were fractured longitudinally to expose the gutta-percha-sealer interface. To evaluate the cement thickness around oval and circular posts luted in oval post spaces prepared with different drills/tips. Extracted premolars were endodontically treated and obturated, then randomly divided into three groups (n = 5) according to the tips/drills used for post-space preparation and to the type of fiber post luted: medium grit oval tip + oval posts, fine grit oval tip + oval posts, Mtwo Post File drill + circular posts. The specimens were sectioned in horizontal slices; one slice per canal third was chosen for each post-space, resulting in three slices for each specimen. The distances between the canal wall and the post perimeter were measured on SEM images of each slice. This study detected procedural errors created by rotary nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments during root canal preparation by two imaging methods. Forty extracted human maxillary and mandibular molars were divided randomly into two groups and treated by two endodontists (n=10) and two undergraduate dental students (n=10). The ProTaper UniversalTM Rotary System was used to shape the canals and then they were filled using AH PlusTM sealer and gutta-percha.
