Kapal tunda adalah salah satu alat transportasi laut yang sangat penting, kapal yang dirancang untuk menunda atau menowing tongkang dan sejenisnya. Kapal tunda dapat pula melayani daerah-daerah terpencil yang tidak ada pelabuhan disana. Biaya pengangkutan barang lebih murah daripada kapal barang. Kapal tunda merupakan kapal yang trayeknya dari satu pulau ke pulau lain dengan jarak cukup jauh, meskipun ukurannya kecil tapi tenaga mesinnya sangat kuat, serta peralatan towing yang dimiliki lebih lengkap dan dapat menjangkau perairan dangkal yang tidak bisa dijangkau kapal besar. Kapal tunda juga memiliki beberapa jenis yaitu kapal konvensional (towing or pusher tug), kapal tunda serbaguna (utility tug) dan kapal tunda pelabuhan (harbor tug). Kapal Tug Boat Comar Satu adalah kapal tunda milik PT. Solusi Bangun Indonesia yang digunakan untuk pekerjaan menarik, mendorong, dan menggeser tongkang dalam pengangkutan bahan baku batu kapur dan bahan baku lainnya untuk produksi semen. Peralatan towing meliputi wire sling, wire rope, sling belt, wire clip, turnbuckles, shacle dll. Pemeliharaan peralatan kapal dilakukan rutin setiap bulan. Kapal Comar Satu memiliki tenaga yang besar jika dibanding ukurannya, oleh karenannya dapat menarik tongkang yang ukurannya dua kali lebih besar. Kapal Comar Satu menerapkan peraturan safety first (utamakan keselamatan) bagi semua pekerja untuk wajib mengenakan perlengkapan keamanan seperti helm, rompi, sepatu, lifejacket, dll saat melakukan pekerjaan sekecil apapun. In this paper we will look at the effectiveness of a non-invasive means of measuring key dynamic characteristics of a tug and tow system for complete voyages. Thereafter, we will use this information to drive a numerical simulation of the towline. A prototype, compact, and rugged test sensor suite was installed on both a tug and barge for an inshore waters tow on the West Coast UK. This data was post-processed and fed into a lumped mass numerical model of the system. Initially only GPS position data is used and the effects and importance of processing higher resolution surge, heave, and sway data will be checked. Conclusions are drawn which will be used to guide further research in this area.

Towing tanks experiments were conducted to study the behavior of flow on a model of underwater vehicle with tango shape of nose. Length of model and prototype vehicle is 1 and 32 meters, respectively. First the method of underwater model test is evaluated by unequal Reynolds number. An accurate method has been suggested for scaling of results between model and main submarine in underwater testing. Suitable depth for ignoring the free surface effects has been suggested. After underwater test in towing tank and extracting the results, the CFD results have been compared. At last, for more validation of results, four groups of experimental formula for submarine bare hull resistance in deep water have been presented. Finally, the comparison tables and diagrams show the accuracy of each of these six methods in the calculation of submerged resistance of submarine and present an optimum resistance coefficient for this submarine.

Also groins have been used to increase the navigability of waterways. The flow structures around groin head play a very important role for their successful performance. Literature search reveals that bell mouth groins are relatively more popular in Bangladesh than other types of groins. But no systematic experiments have been conducted to study the flow pattern and flow behavior around bell mouth groins. Keeping this in view, a study was undertaken to investigate the flow field around bell mouth groin in a large mobile bed physical model facility (46m x 11 m) of BUET.
