This is the second time I've read this trilogy and I loved it just as much the second time. I would recommend it to everyone, it has such a lovely blend of traditional fantasy elements mixed up with a new take. Here's a list of my favourite bits:
- a female MC who matures and develops, but doesn't suddenly become all powerful
- witty dialogue between supporting characters that feels like real friendships
- multiple mythical creatures
- magic
- a focus on good communication and how this can make all the difference in the world
- the angriest moment in the book is all about books and their restriction
- beautiful vows / sayings for important moments, for example funerals and weddings
- travel involves discomfort and dirt
- and finally, right at the end, the importance of pockets

I'm sure I will read this again and I'm just about to re-read the other trilogy as well. Please write more books...

So, I’ll keep it short.
An easy read, good for all ages. That doesn’t mean it isn’t complex - so many threads run through this and seemingly trivial things come back later and you go wow!
I read the Keeper Chronicles prior to reading this and both are epic stories with atmosphere. Up there with the very best books I’ve read. The end.

I’ve been a lifelong fan of fantasy fiction, and I’ve read a lot. I learned that I enjoy character development, I like to feel some emotion about them. I like an original or unusual plot. Epic multi-continent plots of faceless kings and princesses and heroes don’t do it for me. I like some complexity in the characters and maybe some surprises about who they are. I like the characters to have emotion, and that it be described to me so I can empathise with them.

Few fantasy fiction writers seem to have the talent to do this. The ability to develop characters that you care about, the patience to create a world that richly fills your imagination with images, a plot where you care about the outcome, and can’t necessarily predict it.

Over the years I’ve found it harder and harder to find quality stories by talented authors (I think I’ve literally read most of them now)

So what a golden ray of sunshine to come across J.A. Andrews. She does all the above, and so much more. I think what sets her apart from other current authors in her genre is that she really is thrilled by the magical world she is able to create for us. I love the way she develops everything and will not settle for mediocre or rushed in any part of the story.

There is a saying that no story or presentation is ever too long, if it’s interesting enough. If you haven’t come across J.A Andrews work before, I’m so jealous of you! She has written literally hundreds and hundreds of pages for you to enjoy, and you will be enthralled from start to end.

The Keeper Origins trilogy is a phenomenal work of fantasy fiction that I can’t recommend highly enough. If you’re able to purchase the audio version read by Kate Reading, you’re in for a real treat!

Box set bonanza!

I read all three of these books separately as I had to wait for each individual release. I only wish that they had been available in this format, then I could have submerged myself and gorged on them all in one go. These are a precursor to the original Keeper books, although it’s not necessary to have read the originals I found that having read them that these books answered so many questions and filled in all the extra bits. It’s like revisiting a favourite place. The world building is exceptional and the characters certainly come to life and as a reader I felt so invested in them succeeding. Magical fantasy and dark doings, there are elves, kobolds and dwarves. The story sweeps you along and makes you really care about the outcome. I have read all of JA Andrews books and have yet to be disappointed. I only wish that she could write at the same rate that I read! I certainly recommend this Trilogy

A beautifully written fantasy series with an entirely different and plausible concept for magic and manipulation (the power of theatre anyone?). I read all six books in the two series, plus the stand alone add ons and then for the first time in a long life sent a nagging email to the author asking her to write a new series (which she has now released the first of). If you enjoy a well written book, and surprises (the books are certainly not predictable) with a thumping good plot you should enjoy this very much.
