Interactive civilisation
This is basically just a guy becoming an interactive participant in a Millenia long game of civilizations.
It’s interesting and I’ll give it 4 stars just because it’s somewhat unique

Great Idea, Not so much a great story
I've listened at the time of this review, five out of the eight books. I love a world building/city building story. The main character of CivCEO while he has good intentions, goes about it in all the wrong ways. Doesn't want to start any fights, yet is constantly forcing himself into problem after problem.
I like a book that doesn't make combat or fighting in general the sole focus on the story. Trying to solve a problem using brains over brawn can have its advantages. This guy just trades away everything or buys off his aggressor with what seems to be an unlimited wallet. He will say his funds are low, yet out of the blue he finds more and more money, explaining it away like it was there the whole time.
I also find the main character himself, very cold. Feelings like sadness, anger, happiness seem to be way over his head. There is no personal growth. At least not much in the span of the first five books. He wants something, he finds a way to get it no matter the cost. Then he makes bucket loads of gold so he can fund more outlandish or problem making ideas.
Overall, the books aren't bad. You can get hooked on a fair few plot points and you need to know what happens next. I just wish the writer had gone for a less cynical approach to his story.

A wannabe businessman wet dream
Interesting premise, and the narrator is good, but the main character is the definition of the whole "bootstrap" narrative.
The whole series legitimately feels like an endorsement of exploitative capitalism. The protagonist supposedly has morals, but they're so hypocritical compared to his actions that he just seems like scum. Not to mention how f**kn stupid he becomes at times, assuming that other people will have the same base need for wealth that he has.
