Resumen del Editor

“This may just be the single most important book on modern Evangelicalism in recent years. It is bold, clear, and very well-researched.”—John MacArthur

How deeply have leftist billionaires infiltrated America’s churches?

Liberal theology isn’t new. Pastors and theologians have drifted, slipped, or even plunged into doctrinal error for centuries. But in recent decades, Daily Wire reporter Megan Basham reveals, well-funded forces from outside the church have been sowing seeds of discord from behind the scenes.

In Shepherds for Sale, Basham documents how progressive powerbrokers—from George Soros, to the founder of eBay, to former members of the Obama administration—set out to change the American church. Secular foundations and think tanks have deliberately targeted Christian media, universities, megachurches, nonprofits, and even entire denominations, not to mention many high-profile pastors and influencers, with infiltration and astroturf campaigns. Their goal: to co-opt the church for political purposes. In exchange for toeing a left-wing line, many of those church leaders and institutions have received cash, career jumps, prestige, and praise.

Now, many evangelical leaders are pushing their members to “whisper” about sexual sins, reconsider the importance of abortion, lament the effects of climate change, and repent of “perpetuating systemic racism.” Meanwhile, America’s largest evangelical denominations are fraught with division over issues like critical race theory, and many ministries once known for publishing sound doctrine are now promoting social justice.

Through years of investigation, Basham uncovered compromise at the highest levels of evangelical leadership—from the revered Presbyterian theologian who furtively backed a rogue congregation rebelling against his own denomination, to the celebrity megachurch pastor who secretly encouraged a group of pastors to change their views on sexuality.

A rigorously reported exposé, Shepherds for Sale serves as a warning of what can happen when a church forgets that true power lies not in the world’s wisdom, but in Scripture.

Great Book, but bringing the receipts is a mixed blessing

In todays age of TikTok/YouTube shirt doom scrolling, reading/listening to an investigative reporter go deep into the weeds of an issue by presenting a mountain of evidence to support her claims make take some getting used to (but it’s surprisingly a breath of fresh air)

I encourage everyone to stick it out even though it might be tough to follow all of the different characters in the story sometimes (real life is complex).

The author does a wonderful job and (despite my previous comments) I look forward to the author’s future work exploring any one of many subjects (environmental movement, LBGTQ+, etc) in further detail

Sheep farmers

Exposes how the evangelical episcopal aristocracy are more concerned about seeking the approval of the politically powerful and have lost their calling as shepherds. Instead, they have become sheep farmers, fleecing the flock to gain worldly status and gain a seat of honor among those who hate our Lord.

4D chess is convincing Big Eva to push a Godless agenda from the pulpit.

Read or listen. Explains what’s gone on behind the scenes to sell out Christians and hamstring them politically. It would be terrifying if only a fraction of it were true.

Not Afraid of Truth

Megan goes to great lengths to detail and factually document the undermining of evangelical leaders. The betrayed is generally assumed or believed, but the depth and breadth of compromise are so deep that it seems beyond human coordination.

The Bible tells us not to be surprised by this nor dismayed. The powers and principalities orchestrating are more than human.

Contrary to those who seek to attack her and slander her, Megan has no fear of the truth nor of admitting her own sin, as the conclusion details. Megan shows vividly the human actors and their underhanded dealings of how those who are supposed to be shepherds and leaders have sold out for fame and fortune. Any Christian who loves Christ and His church would be well advised to grab a copy. Read and do the research yourself if you have any questions or doubts, the "receipts" of evidence are well documented. "All those who seek to live godly in this present age will be persecuted", and we should not be blind to the attack from within.

Mostly a hit, with the exception of not being Baptist.

I appreciate Megan Basham's work and investigation into the corruption of America and especially in the Evangelical segments of America. I'm not a Baptist so there's a great deal of the book which is plausible but I have no depth of knowledge in that denomination nor it's leadership and the issues as of late. I appreciate her nuance for Tim Keller and his imperfections as well as the praise she has for his best work. Having been in a fair number of non-denominational churches and seeing the same compromises of the Gospel, especially in calling all sinners to repent and sin no more, I am very glad to hear her book and know that I'm not the only Christian who sees those problems. Great job and a great audio book.

Biblical, Helpful, and Informative

Well written and informative, Megan Basham does a great job connecting many of the dots regarding the Marxist ideology that has infected Christian churches in recent times. There is a movement of man-centered people who claim Christianity and seem to have more concern for accommodating the culture than honoring the truth of God contained in Scripture. Public leaders of this movement are identified with evidence provided.

Basham narrates herself and does an excellent job.
The book’s conclusion is extremely well done and moving, tying in her own conversion to Christianity with the overall theme of the book and the need for faithful Christian leaders who are not swayed by a hostile world.

If you hear this book criticized as dishonest or slanderous, ask yourself: where are the defamation lawsuits if she is indeed wrong? Like John Calvin said, ambiguity is indeed the fortress of heretics.

Summary of what normal “people in the pews” have observed the past several years in the evangelical church

If you have a biblical worldview and have wondered “what in the world is going on?” in regards to the evangelical church over the last 5-10 years (or more), this book provides helpful highlights of the influences pushed into seminaries and “Big Eva”, that trickles down into pulpits.

A MUST READ!

Megan’s thorough, investigative approach to this book left no room for speculation. The information presented here is indisputable. She cut no corners. This book served to boost my confidence in The Church (that will not be prevailed against) but reminded me not to put my hope and confidence in organizations. The heart is an idol factory and must be guarded - no person is immune to the virus of pride, fueled by worldliness. May God grant us repentance, to His glory. Thank you for this book, Megan.
