Story
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College–Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Great book did not like dramatics
Reviewed: 06-23-24
Yaros is a great author, one of the best I’ve ever read. I enjoyed fourth wing immensely but… The dramatics of this audible was not right for me. The hollow reverb sound when the dragon spoke- I did not enjoy. I’m guessing the music was digitalized, and at times, it sounded melodramatic like something from old movies. I purchased again the book, audible, so I could supply the dramatics of the narrative with my own mind.

When Lily arrives at an antique jewelry fair, her bargain sensors go off left and right - but she also picks up a faint vibration of magic. Could the hard-bargaining merchant Griselda be a fellow practitioner? It certainly seems that way when a sudden fire sends panic through the crowd, and Lily discovers Griselda murdered in a way that nods to an old-fashioned witch hunt. A crime that hits close to home turns into an unwelcome flash from the past when the police bring in their lead suspect - Lily's estranged father.

This story touched me!!
Reviewed: 02-22-21
The way Kristin Hannah handles the historical relevance of the Depression and the Dustbowl was outstanding! The main character Elsa and her story made me relive the issues I have faced as a woman – we are all warriors. I found myself reminiscing about family and what it must have been like for them during the depression. “When a hamburger was a nickel and we did not have the nickel.”

3 ⭐️ for me!
Reviewed: 02-03-21
I just don’t get it-why this book received an award. obviously many people enjoyed this book, it was just OK for me. The characters needed more development as well as the story. It was not enough for me for a black woman with a twin sister to “vanish” and lead her life as a white woman. Admittedly it is a unique thought.
Some authors present the reader with a cup of tea and other authors make the reader want to drink and taste the tea, that is the type of author I am looking for. This book did not hit the Mark.

I’ve been in this life for 50 years, been trying to work out its riddle for 42, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last 35. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me.

McConauhey’s story is a great narration of his life and insight into life itself . I hope he keeps on writing-Great creative writer. I hope he narrates as well, but please not so much loud voice. I enjoyed this book, loved the stories, loved hearing about his family and Matthew’s straight forward thoughts and presentation.
Note to author-please pick movies with great characters, do a saga, Broadway awaits. Unfortunately your last several movies just didn’t hit the mark in storyline department.
