Publisher's summary

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College–Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.

Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits–and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.

But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year.

Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College–and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

Story excellent, delivery fell short this time around

Previously read the book and was so looking forward to the dramatised audio. Unfortunately was a bit let down compared to fourth wing performance. I felt like the delivery was lacking the right intonations and pace especially for Xaden compared to the delivery in book 1, it wasn’t giving the same calm arrogance and ruthless delivery consistently. For example the emotional speech between Xaden and Violet at the end of part 1 was spoken too fast and didn’t have the level of emotion expected to match how significant the words spoken were. I know you have it in you as it was so good in book 1 so really hope you find that magic again for future adaptions! On another note, did the voice actor for Bodhi change - this was another note able change vs book 1 that felt off. For new actors really enjoyed Varrish. Still really looking forward to part 2 and future books as FW sparked my love for these adaptations.

Incredible Audiobook- dramatized version adds so much engagement

Absolutely loved this book, and the dramatized version was perfection, so excited to hear all of fourth wing on audible!

Great book did not like dramatics

Yaros is a great author, one of the best I’ve ever read. I enjoyed fourth wing immensely but… The dramatics of this audible was not right for me. The hollow reverb sound when the dragon spoke- I did not enjoy. I’m guessing the music was digitalized, and at times, it sounded melodramatic like something from old movies. I purchased again the book, audible, so I could supply the dramatics of the narrative with my own mind.

Amazing Voice Actors

FW & IF are great books, but that doesn't always mean the audiobooks will be great. I'm picky. However, these dramatizations by Graphic Audio are by far my favorite audiobooks ever.

Irish Names, Butchered Pronunciation

Cast members can’t correctly pronounce Irish names. The dragons have Irish names, half the human characters have Irish names, but the cast members still can’t get the names correct.

Most egregious example: “Aoife” is “Eye-fee” or “Effie,” by the same character within just a few minutes; Tairn (shortened name) is “Tarin” by other voice actors,

Yes and no

There are times when I cannot STAND the writing in this book. Sometimes, oftentimes it borders on YA teenage angst and having read another book outside of this from Yarros I know she is capable of higher quality writing. The storyline itself however is very gripping, which always pivots me from 3 stars to 4 and wanting to read part 2 earlier than the release.
