From the author of the international best seller The Stone Man, short-listed for Audible UK's Book of the Year Award 2015. Here are the rules. Method: you can't use a gun. You can't use explosives. You can't use poison. It has to be up close and personal. You don't have to worry about leaving evidence; that will be taken care of. Victim: no one suicidal. No one over the age of 65. After months of hunting a cold-blooded murderer that the press has dubbed the Thorn Killer, Detective Greg Carver is shot in his own home. His trusted partner, Ruth Lake, is alone with him. Yet instead of calling for help, she’s rearranged the crime scene and wiped the room clean of prints.

There was no shortage of words she could use to describe her father, and almost none of them complimentary. A voicemail from her estranged sister, Melanie, sends Robin’s heart racing and her mind spiraling in a full-blown panic attack. Melanie’s message is dire: Their father, his second wife, and his 12-year-old stepdaughter have been shot - likely in a home invasion - and lie in the hospital in critical condition.

Story
When Sienna Walker is nearly fired from the NYPD, the last thing she expects is a second chance in the one place she vowed never to return to. Loved the main character!
Yeah, like they said, it's good. It'd make an awesome movie, or better yet, a Netflix series.

My 2023 Six Star Review - Tremendous !
This is my 101st review over many years.....I only review books I really like--and never when the review is solicited. For several years I have tried to get Audible to allow any listener who reviews more than 10 books in a category to assign one "6-star" review per year. Still no luck...so I do it myself. This book is a police procedural that is fun, interesting, and perhaps something seemingly impossible--a new take on the "buddy" English police procedural. I won't give away even an iota of the plot, but it is simultaneously recognizable to anyone who likes the genre, and yet a fresh take. Also, I'm always very wary of authors who perform their own work. However, I can't imagine anyone else narrating this--or that anyone could possibly have done a better job. It is a book that begs to be heard aloud--I cannot even imagine reading it rather than listening. So.....six stars and a firm "thank you" for a wonderful story and performance.
