Professional Statement
I’m a clinical psychologist with expertise in couples and family psychology, cancer survivorship and rehabilitation, and LGBTQ health. Since 2000, my work has focused primarily on psychosocial adaptation to genitourinary cancers, HIV, and other chronic diseases experienced by older adults. In 2006, I joined the faculty of the Scott Department of Urology at Baylor College of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in Psychiatry. In addition to my research, I am the course co-director for two medical student electives: Human Sexuality and LGBTQ Health. My current clinical work focuses couples and individual psychotherapy.
Before joining Baylor, I was with the University of California, San Francisco Department of Urology from 2000-2006.
My research projects have been funded ($1.8 million as Principal Investigator, $8.8 million as Co-Investigator) by the National Institute of Mental Health, National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, the Department of Defense Congressionally-Mandated Medical Research Program, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
