At Accessibility Hearing, EAC Adopts HAVA Funding Policy for Implementation of Federal Requirements, Including ADA

On August 28, the EAC held an in-person public meeting on issues facing voters with disabilities ahead of the 2024 presidential election titled, “Closing the Accessibility Gap: Voting in 2024 and Beyond.” During the meeting, the EAC voted to adopt a recommendation that allows election offices to fully allocate the cost of allowable, reasonable, and necessary for the implementation of Federal requirements, including accessibility requirements to Help America Vote Act (HAVA) funds.

The EAC Celebrates National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, Inspiring New Generation of Election Workers

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) announced today, August 1, 2024, is designated National Poll Worker Recruitment Day. This national day of action was established by the EAC in 2020 to raise awareness of the importance of poll workers, inspire greater civic engagement, and supplement state and local election officials’ recruitment efforts across the country. Last year, election offices in 40 states and Washington DC joined elected officials, private companies, nonprofit organizations, and others in this effort.

U.S. Election Assistance Commission Reaches Voluntary Voting System Guidelines 2.0 Migration Deadline – VVSG 1.0 Systems Still in Use and Certified to Highest Standard

After November 15th, all applications for voting systems to be newly certified by the EAC must be for VVSG 2.0 or limited maintenance modifications to existing EAC-certified systems.  New systems will require time to be developed, certified, and fielded for use in  elections – dependent upon local and state procurement policies – while existing systems certified by the EAC to VVSG 1.0 remain secure.
