Humming, I grabbed my colouring book out of my toy cupboard and turned to walk out of my bedroom into the hall. Whoosh! A dark cloud zoomed past the doorway and down the stairs. Then the presence vanished into thin air.
On reflex, I automatically stepped back from the doorway. My 7-year-old heart was beating very fast.
‘Hello, is there anyone there?’ I shouted down the dark stairwell.
My voice echoed into the empty space. I was all alone on the top floor landing. But at least I wasn’t all alone in the big old Edwardian terraced house. My big sisters Jane, Edwina and Susan were out with
