I DON’T know about you, but I’ve found myself from time to time having a symptom, a pain, some discomfort, and absolutely knowing it’s not just an isolated problem, but connected to something broader. And also knowing that treating it in isolation isn’t getting to the root of the problem, which will therefore come back, or even get worse.

Doctors try to make those connections, of course, but tend to have expertise in a small range of disciplines. What would be good would be a broad range of specialists all looking at the symptoms, and also looking into the background of the patient. The person suffering the symptom may give as many clues as the symptom itself,
