Mary liked to keep her birthday a secret - so nobody knows exactly when she was born! What we do know is that it happened sometime in the early nineteenth century, in Kingston.

Kingston is the largest city on the island of Jamaica, and it was an exciting place to grow up! Mary loved exploring its wide streets and neat rows of stone buildings, shaded by green trees in which tropical birds trilled.
