Tyson
Tyson!
screeched Zoe, clutching her dreadlocks in exasperation. Stop digging in the flower bed!
The old black dog ignored her and kept on digging. Then he stuck his face in the soil, bounded back to Zoe, and dropped something muddy at her feet.
Ugh!
she exclaimed, pulling a face. A dirty lump of mud. No thanks!
Tyson looked up at her, his beautiful chestnut eyes squinting in the evening sun, then he put his paw on the muddy mess.
Realizing her dog was trying to tell her something, Zoe bent down and picked up the sticky lump. As she touched it, a sudden shock of magical excitement rushed through her. Zoe’s heart beat like a drum as she held it in her hands. She scraped away the soil, revealing something shiny. It was the magic rainbow stone! There was no mistaking it - smooth like a pebble and as clear as glass, with a beautiful sparkling rainbow inside!
Clever boy!
said Zoe, stroking Tyson on his smooth black head. Thank you for finding it!
Zoe sprang across the velvety lawn and raced upstairs to the bathroom. She placed the stone in the sink and gently rubbed away the remaining dirt under warm, trickling water. When the stone was squeaky clean, she dabbed it with a towel and held it up. The soft evening sun shone through it, casting dancing colours on the walls as Zoe moved it around.
Zoe smiled in delight. She had possessed the rainbow stone twice before. Each time, she had gone to sleep the same night and found herself in The Crystal World - a beautiful, sparkly place where she had made friends with four crystal children - Amethyst, Citrine, Emerald and Sapphire. Both times, she had found herself having a great adventure there, and each time the stone vanished from her bedside cabinet the next day. Now here it was again. It was bedtime already, and this surely meant she was about to visit her friends again for another adventure!
Zoe changed into her nightgown and settled down in her soft cosy bed. The moment she fell asleep, the stone began to glow, projecting its rainbow onto the ceiling, as sparkling magic poured out and filled the room.
Zoe stepped through a dazzling rainbow arch and found herself once more in The Crystal World.
This time, she was in a street of big sparkly houses. Zoe looked around in awe at the lush glassy lawns, the jewel-fruited trees and the glinting glass-like flowers. Then, out of a big house directly opposite, stepped a pretty yellow crystal girl
