Cage & Aviary Birds

Inky, the mischief maker we all loved

CORVIDS

THE other day, I threw a couple of fat balls on to the lawn for the sparrows. Within seconds, a young crow who visits every day picked up a fat ball and took it onto the green across the road to eat. That immediately reminded me of a tame jackdaw we once had called Inky.

Inky was a real smart cookie. I bought him from a Mr Humphries, who had advertised him for sale in Cage & Aviary Birds.

The same advert would appear for several years at the same time each year and would mention “silly tame hand-reared jackdaws”. After purchase, the first thing I knew about him was when I got a phone call from British Rail to say I had a box to pick up.
