About this audiobook
A father and daughter living in the remote Appalachian mountains must reckon with the ghosts of their past in Kimi Cunningham Grant's These Silent Woods, a mesmerizing audiobook of suspense.
No electricity, no family, no connection to the outside world.
For eight years, Cooper and his young daughter, Finch, have lived in isolation in a remote cabin in the northern Appalachian woods. And that's exactly the way Cooper wants it, because he's got a lot to hide. Finch has been raised on the books filling the cabin’s shelves and the beautiful but brutal code of life in the wilderness. But she’s starting to push back against the sheltered life Cooper has created for her—and he’s still haunted by the painful truth of what it took to get them there.
The only people who know they exist are a mysterious local hermit named Scotland, and Cooper's old friend, Jake, who visits each winter to bring them food and supplies. But this year, Jake doesn't show up, setting off an irreversible chain of events that reveals just how precarious their situation really is. Suddenly, the boundaries of their safe haven have blurred—and when a stranger wanders into their woods, Finch’s growing obsession with her could put them all in danger. After a shocking disappearance threatens to upend the only life Finch has ever known, Cooper is forced to decide whether to keep hiding—or finally face the sins of his past.
Vividly atmospheric and masterfully tense, These Silent Woods is a poignant story of survival, sacrifice, and how far a father will go when faced with losing it all.
"The story unwinds at a slow pace, but the denouement is dramatic, surprising, and, finally, gratifying." --AudioFile

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a beautifully written and wonderfully narrated story. It is highly recommended for its ability to draw listeners in and evoke strong emotions. While some reviewers felt that the plot lacked suspense and had unnecessary filler, overall, the book is thought-provoking and keeps the reader engaged. The ending is surprising and the characters are believable. The narration is outstanding, with the reader skillfully changing voices for different characters. This book is considered one of the best by many readers and is worth reading for its heartwarming and moving story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is beautifully written… and brilliantly narrated!! It is definitely worth a listen simply based on that. My only disappointment, if i would even consider it that - is that based on the description, i was expecting a “thriller”, or at the very least some true suspense. While there was a sense of unease in the story, it was not truly suspenseful. There were also periods of what I felt was unnecessary “filler” to prolong the story. It didn’t really contribute to the overall theme or outcome. Only minor little things - but even though I felt it was not pertinent, I still very much liked listening to the narrator.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Outstanding story! Twists and turns you won’t see coming. Best reader I’ve heard in a while and he can actually pronounce words correctly; which sadly is unusual with audio books. He changes his voice masterfully for different characters. You will love every part and be sad that it ends.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow! Great ending! I wasn’t expecting that twist and that’s something that I really love about thrillers. The beginning was quite slow but once you start realizing what’s going on you grow to like both characters and the atmosphere.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book. It had me hooked from the start. I haven’t ugly bawled due to a book in a long time. Don’t skip this one.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A great story, that is very well written, and well told!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Hmm I think the book could of ended better. Without spoiling the story I won’t elaborate. But it’s a heart felt story of grace and holding one’s self accountable for past regrets.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Exquisitely written. Yes, it is slow, but it gives you such a pleasure of being submerged in words that flow easy as a river.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This was an okay book for me. The ending and epilogue are what even got it to 2 stars. It just sort of dragged on for 26 chapters until it got even remotely interesting. I’m glad I decided to listen to it on audio though. It was a decent experience.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Just okay. Not my favorite book ever. The book kept my interest, but I never felt the plot picked up to the point where I cared.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I was recommended this book as a thriller and all the reviews online said the ending was great but I was deeply disappointed as this had 3-4 chapters with any action or contributed to the storyline and the ending didn't have a climax. I listened on audiobook and since it wasn't too long I decided to keep listening even though chapters 2-34 really were nothing and I should have stopped. I would not recommend this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow!!! Not what I expected and I’m so ok with that. I’ve had this on my TBR for awhile but I’m so glad I chose to listen to it today!
I don’t want to say much because I think it’s best going in blind not knowing too much. The characters are so Interesting and the book catches you right from the beginning and draws you in. The book was written so well you could picture living in the cabin in the woods and living off the grid. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I thought the book started out a little slow, but once you get closer towards the end, it all makes sense why. It made me cry, beautifully well written novel.

Thoughtful and provoking this makes you think about the grayness of right and wrong. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Will be recommending it to my bookclub.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love Bronson Pinchot, and he is the reason I listened to this book.
The book itself is drawn out, and if it wasn't for Pinchot, I might have abandoned it.
The last episodes broke my heart. I wished that there could have been more character development throughout the book of the person who ultimately made a huge sacrifice... - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Enthralling from the first word to the last! Beautifully written, wonderfully narrated!
Thank you for such an amazing work! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a beautiful book. Must read. i loved it.
