That ending really came out of left field. Actually annoyed by it. And did the narrator even LISTEN to the song that was repeated like a hundred times throughout the book??? Because she made it sound like a nursery rhyme. I finally looked the song up on YouTube out of curiosity and it was NOTHING like what she was sing-song reading. I understand that it's a bit slower of a song but she could've done a better job with it.

Had to wait awfully long for the twist. But it was worth it for the narrator. One of the best voice actors I've heard in a long time. Brought the book and the character to life. Don't think I would've enjoyed the book so much on text though.

Spoiler Alert. First of all the narrators whiny noise got on my nerves. Also who would not make a big deal about their teenage daughter sleeping with a grown man? Make it make sense.

The narrator does a great job with this audiobook. If you are a fan of unreliable narrators, this book definitely delivers a slow descent into madness.

This book was so good. You really question the main character and what the possible outcome is going to be the whole book. Definitely recommended.

OMG, BEST ONE YET! Utterly intelligent, well thought-out psychological (family) thriller! A 10th of a star deduction (not a spoiler - wont mean a THING to you until you get there) if a family is the type that doesnt leave projects incomplete -given as reason why no loose bricks are laying around - then would they REALLY be the type to leave a old fish pond unfilled (especially with kids running around)? Small point, and the only sloppy part in this amazing novel. If you need something to take you out of yourself or your own problems for a bit, check this one out?

I think it was a great book until the end. But, it was a very fun read, and was interesting to think about. I did not see the twist coming, and it honestly didn’t do it for me. It wasn’t bad, maybe just not so much my taste. Great writing and such expressive narration.

I thought this was a pretty well-written story! She did a great job of leaving it suspenseful and uncertain! The unreliable narrator vibes turn into such a great twist at the end, and I enjoyed the way the author chose to end the novel with the surprise connections of mother, daughter, son, and time! I was looking for a unique read and definitely got it with this novel!

I normally don't write reviews, but WOW! THIS was a slow burn, building you up to an ending you never could have guessed. Highly recommend.

Loved it. Behind her eyes was always one of my favorites. This book kept me gripped and finished in 2 days.
ALSO!! If you loved behind her eyes, the very end will give you little goosebumps when it clicks into place.

Great story but there was 5 or 6 missing chunks in the audio recording. Only like 10 seconds but still.

    Insomnia by Sarah Pinbrough

    Quick Summary:
As Emma’s 40th birthday creeps closer, the words of her mother play on a loop within her head. “You have bad blood, you’ll go mad just like me.” At 5 years old young Emma and her sister Phoebe escape their mother’s madness on her mothers own 40th birthday resulting in her mother being committed to a home for the criminal insane and sisters split up in foster care. While Emma begins to struggle with insomnia the rest of her life begins to fall apart. Falling into paranoia she finds friendship in a stranger and conspiracy ideas of what could have landed her in this position.

What I liked about this book:
Sarah Pinbrough has mastered the art of a slow burn thriller where characters descent into madness takes hold. Multiple layers to unpack leave you wanting to know more as you try to piece the puzzle together. Add in the added intertwine of characters from added novels make you feel like you’re in a real community of living beings.

What I didn’t like about this book:
It is a slow build to things finally clicking, having read other of Pinbrough’s novels I knew that if I got through the first bit of the book it would pick up but it does take some time.

It was engaging. I have enjoyed lisa jewells books more, and wouldn't really compare this to girl on the train but it was alright.

I could not stand Emma. The social commentary on how terrible men are was constantly shoved in your face, and it is hilarious because Emma and her "feminist " daughter are terrible hypocrites. The entire side thing with Stockwell was only included to "prove" men are slimy and sexist, while Emma is pretty much a total slimy b-word from start to finish. Why can't female authors of today just shut up about politics and write a good story? None of it even added to the story. I was also disappointed in the "who done it" reveal since I guessed it at the very beginning and was hoping I was wrong. It was just lazy to me. If Sarah dropped the social commentary, made Emma less of a b-word, this would have been much better though.
