About this audiobook

Despite sharing a birthday with the holiday, Christmas just wasn't Noelle's thing. As a kid she had been in love with the holiday, but adult Noelle just saw it as another day to get through.

Jay has moved back home after a breakup and is looking to reconnect with his childhood bestie. Cooking up a scheme to get her in the holiday spirit with her sisters, he's determined to bring back to the old Noelle.

With a combination of nostalgia, Christmas magic and a little bit of mistletoe, Noelle the First is a tale of old friends finding their way back to each other and more.

Editor's Note

Contemporary Christmas...

Noelle’s birthday is Christmas, which explains her Christmas-adjacent name. But Noelle herself isn’t into the holiday — until her childhood friend schemes with her sisters to bring the holiday spirit back to her. Falls’ writing is wickedly sexy and fun, and it feels like all of us are just hanging out in the Holliday Sisters’ family kitchen gabbing about everything.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a cute and enjoyable romance story. The chemistry and build-up of the romance is well-developed, and the holiday-themed day trips around Chicago add to the charm. The family dynamics and the friends-to-lovers trope are also appreciated by readers. However, some readers found the male narrator's voice distracting, but it didn't detract from their overall enjoyment of the story. Overall, readers love this cute and well-written novella.

This was such a cute story!!! The only thing I didn't enjoy was the male narrator. He could've used a cough drop and some hot tea. All that vocal fry almost made me stop listening but I was invested in the story already.

The eldest of the Holliday daughters (whose parents deliberately tried to conceive so their kids were born on their favorite holidays), Noelle was born on Christmas and usually seriously enjoys the holidays. But she’s been depressed and a bit grinchy since her father died in a car accident about a year ago (a teen was texting while driving.)

Her sisters stage an intervention—they hire her estranged best friend Jay to rekindle Noelle’s holiday spark. Newly single Jay (his jealous, cheating ex was behind his and Noelle’s estrangement) wants to repair their friendship and hopes to get Noelle to look at him as more than a friend. And her sister’s are not quiet about the fact they’ve always wanted Jay as a brother-in-law (and despised his ex. Their nicknames for her are hilariously spiteful).

Lots of sweet holiday-themed day trips around Chicago ensue. The friendship is repaired and, after mistletoe becomes involved, romance kindles.

This is a slow burn Black friends to lovers romance that ends with a fair amount of steam.

The banter, the friends and family interactions, and the emotional growth are all very well done. And the Chicago Christmas outings were so much fun.

    Highly recommended
