Forget David Seltzers terrifying horror classic "The Omen" and get ready to experience A. G. Mock's "The Little Woods"! You will not forget this story anytime soon.....I promise.

1977. Summer outside of Pittsburgh PA. Two brothers Ian and Ryan walk to the Little Woods with their friend Matthew to play a game of 'war battle' in the woods before dark. Only two come home.

    1995
the two brothers come home to settle and tie up personal ends to what happened that Summer. Was it real, or all just part of growing up? What they uncover and find out about true evil will stay with me for quite some time.

Now, with me being a person who considers myself 'Non Religious' but not an Athiest if that makes sense, I believe I am my own god and ruler of my temple which is me. But I do believe in good vs. bad, good luck vs. bad Luck, good Karma vs bad Karma and so on and so on. However I have never closed to mind and heart to things unknown in this world that I live in today as a 63 year old man.

Childhood. That time of life that we have all experienced and whether yours was good or bad, for these two teenaged brothers theirs was most definitely bad. And it was filled with demons, devils, violence, extreme darkness and loss.

This audiobook that I listened to came out in 2021 by Tantor Audio, and is the first of 3 books of 'The New Apocrypha'. You ask yourself....what the hell is that? Do NOT research this term before going into this book as I did and you can do it after you read it. Normally I am not a fan of books that are often a series, and normally would not even start them. I like my horror to have a beginning, middle and an end, and would always prefer a well thought out ending. It does not have to bad or good, just well translated. But, I wanted to really read this because coming of age horror is my favorite of this genre, and this one is a great one!. In fact, this book scared me literally. Upon finishing it before bed, I turned the light on as I went down the hallway to the bedroom.

The horrors and scenes of violence are thrown at you sometimes at speeds so fast you have to stop and breathe, and they are not your childrens scares either. They types in fairy tales of witches in gingerbread house etc. These horrors are so visually stimulating and unique, yet so SO graphic that they are the kinds that we read TO be scared while reading horror.

The area known as the Little Woods is real as I looked it up afterwards. And the author; Mock presents this to you in a way that you can smell the smell of summer leaves burning or the smell of charred skin....human skin.
Narrator Joe Hempel does such a great job that the transferrring the tale between the summers of 1977 and 1995 are very easy to follow. Welcome to the Little Woods. You will come out them changed hopefully as I was.

5 screams all the way!! Highly recommeded to anyone who loves their horror scary and visceral and real!. Though it is 400 plus pages long, it is worth your time. Enjoy. I am on to book 2 'Disciple'. Can't wait.
