What our readers think
Readers find this title to be an exceedingly well written, smart, and satisfying ending to the series. Some reviewers felt it dragged a bit, but overall, the book was highly enjoyable. The characters were wonderfully written and the story was unique and interesting. The ending, although summed up quickly, was still considered a beautiful conclusion. The narration was also praised by many. While there were a few negative reviews, the majority of readers found this book to be a perfect end to an incredible series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This entire series was very interesting and unique. Rolling cities that eat smaller cities! This series was the story of Hester and Tom's journey. It also told of their daughter Wren and her journey following her parents on the Bird Roads. If you have not read or listened to this series, I highly suggest it. It can be slow and bogged down with characters, but it was very enjoyable to listen to. The ending was not bad, but was summed up very quickly in only a few short chapters. I personally enjoyed the Fever Crumb series better. I may be biased since I listened to it first. It tells the story of the first traction city of London, where as this story takes place much later. (I believe close to a 1000 years). The Fever Crumb series also focuses on her mostly. There are a lot of twists in both series and both take you on an adventure to remember.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Wonderful conclusion to the mortal engines series, I was entertained the whole time. The narrator is fabulous!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Terrible ending, I spent days listening to this in excitement for the next book all to come to a crap ending. How sad
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sadly, this is the last book in the Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeve. Very entertaining audiobook listening experience. Great voice characterization & the pacing of the novel will keep you flipping those pages. The author brings the novel to an interesting conclusion, that left me thinking about the kind of world that we are leaving our own great grandchildren today. This would be an excellent set of audiobooks to listen too with your family, to bring about discussion on man’s impact on the environment. Great fantasy series for all!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good series and a satisfying ending. Well worth the listen.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As far as youth fiction is concerned, this book is a marvelous piece of narrative. Strong character development interspersed with interesting action scenes, are peppered with wry humour. We see some closure to familiar characters' story arcs. We lose some favourites along the way, which resonates with the flow of the first book of the series. This story could have gone wrong in so many places, but I feel like it was pulled together nicely. Keep your eyes peeled for the hilarious character names that have been excavated from ancient artefacts ;)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Listened to the whole series and I’m at a lost for words. The last book hit me in the feels. The POVs of all the characters were wonderfully written and this series had be captured from the moment I listened to book one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5While I know many people will berate this series for being overly verbose and simple at times, I have not had as much fun listening to these four books over the last few months. Memorable characters and truly human experiences, stretched out in a world of moving cities and airship, resurrected men and staunch defenders of municipal Darwinism. In many years I hope to sit back down and relisten to these books, to the ecological ideals, to the metaphors, to every dastardly thing pennyroyal does, and each quirk of tom and heaters journey. Perhaps listening with my partner, or my sister's children, because despite everything, I truly believe this is a story folks should listen to.
Treat eachother kindly, and be grateful for what you have. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5amazing series. it's a must read, it has a gripping plot and a nice rounded ending. 5*

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A perfect end to an incredible book series. Narrated to perfection!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is an exceedingly well written, smart, and satisfying ending to this series. Some of the more fantastical elements of this book may be easy to dismiss as fantastical, but it is so much greater than the sum of all of it’s whimsical parts. It
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Enjoyed all the books of this series some interesting dialog
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5These are some of the best books I've ever read
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Long but a very well put together book with great narration!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book had one of the best endings in a book I have ever read, if you have trouble reading (I.e. it gets boring) I promise the last chapter, “Shrike in the World to Come”, is probably the best chapter in the entire series and is very much worth reading!
