He served two years in the Army and after his discharge earned a D.D.S. degree from the University of Tennessee. He spent his professional career providing dental care to American Indians and Alaska Natives.
He retired from dentistry and now spends his summers in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and winters in Florida with his wife, Irene.
