She is a mother of four children, a grandm...view moreOrealia Kelly was born in 1930 on the island of Anguilla. She grew up in a home with five other siblings and is the only one alive today. She is a mother of four children, a grandmother to six, and a great-grandmother to three children.
Orealia grew up in a home with strong Christian values, morals, and ethics. This gave her the strength and endurance to embrace life and to face every circumstance or difficulty without fear or failure.
She began her teaching career as a pupil teacher at the Valley Girls School in 1948, where she taught all levels of Primary Education. She was later transferred to the island of Nevis as a Junior Assistant Teacher for two years and at the Gingerland Modern Secondary School for five years. She later became a qualified Trained Teacher.
She returned to Anguilla in 1959, during which she taught at the primary school level for several years. After returning for a refresher course in Management and Psychology, she was appointed as the first principal of the Stoney Ground Primary School in 1977.
Orealia retired in 1985 after a service of forty years in education. She took on a new occupation and became manager of a business, and later Manager of the first National Bookstore on the island.
In 1990, she was called back to work in the field of education as a Temporary Teacher and continues to volunteer her services in the field of education when the need arises. She also privately teaches and tutors students needing assistance.
During her years of service to the community, Orealia has participated in church events. She has organized church fairs. She was a member of the senior choir and other choral groups on the island. She was a Sunday School Teacher and Class Leader. She headed the Junior Choir at her church and assisted with training voices both at church and at school. She was a member of the St. John’s Ambulance and secretary of the local branch or the Red Cross. She was Chairperson of the Disaster Preparedness Committee and Assessor to the Juvenile Court for many years. She served on the Public Service Commission for two consecutive terms.
Orealia has been presented with various awards and honors for her service in Education and the Community on the island of Anguilla.view less
