About this ebook

When young runaway Craig prepares to jump from a church rooftop, his salvation comes in the unholy shape of Silex: a beast trapped in the form of a gargoyle. Silex runs an investigative service, chasing redemption from atop his perch. And he needs a young lad to do his footwork.

Craig begins his new life by probing a series of murders that has menaced Scotland. The scenes are frightening, the motivation is a mystery, and the authorities are no help. So along with Father Harris, a hard-edged man of the cloth, Craig steps onto the streets of Edinburgh—and toward the dangerous task of catching a killer.

One's a suicidal Scottish street urchin. The other's a stone gargoyle rooted to a church rooftop. Together they're detectives.

Unfortunately, this hot stinking heap is not even laughably bad. It's just boring, stupid and awful. Booooooooo!

OCT 01 - I always enjoy Jane Yolen's books and this one is no exception. A very dark story involving demons, the paranormal and gargoyles. There is a realm Scottish Catholic feel about the story too with one of the main characters being a Priest. I really enjoyed the Catholic and Biblical parts of the story, being myself Catholic. But make no mistake, this is a paranormal evil and dark murder mystery. The black and white art is extremely atmospheric, appropriately for a tale taking place in 1930s Edinburgh.I only didn't like the faces as they were always never fully formed and don't seem to be the artist's strong point. While the detail in the background is fine. The mystery is fully solved in this volume but the set-up has been made for the plot to continue in the book.
