    INTRODUCTION

    WHO IS THIS GUIDE FOR?

    This book is a simple-to-use guide for any native English speaker who wants to be more easily understood when speaking English in an international situation.

    Originally, it was intended for people working in global companies, where they need to communicate clearly and quickly with colleagues, suppliers or clients. This communication may be in writing – usually email – or spoken, whether by phone, via video link, or face-to-face. Each type of communication carries its own challenges to clarity, and these are exaggerated where there are language and / or cultural differences.

    It quickly became obvious that this guide can also be useful to anyone travelling abroad for pleasure, as well as those who regularly have contact with non-native speakers at home, for example through their work in the leisure and hospitality industries.
