      Introduction

      INTERIOR DECORATING is a field in which a few reach successes. It is the industry in which people who have better artistic and creative approach not only flourish but sustain over a period spanning years. Decorating is the art form in which interior spaces for both residential and commercial premises are beautifully built by using pleasant esthetic and creative enviornments.

      Most of the people think that interior decor revolves only around the usage of art pieces or decorative objects and colors that you see in a space; this is not the right perception. Decorating spaces is a science that involves visualization, flawless planning, and masterful execution from picking the right materials for the right space to creating a detailed ambiance that has an attractive appeal to it.

      Interior decorating is a tough and a painstaking process, involving various methodologies and actions at different stages of a project whether commercial or residential. Understanding the client requirement is the key to a smooth and result oriented flow of work. It requires good communication skills.

      Proper planning preparations after a client brief will make things easier to understand on both ends, i.e. client and the designer. Portfolios are created to make sure everything is well approved before going into an execution stage. But every designer has a different approach to visualizing, planning, and executing a project.

      This book will explore the basic understanding of decorating spaces and finding the inspirations for your signature style. Decorating is all about realizing your esthetic skills, enhancing them with the understanding of basic design principals and elements. You can gradually build your esthetic senses to work better with every project you complete.

      PART1. Decorating and Style

      a. Defining style

      EVERY ONE OF US CARRIES a personality which projects our image on others, and I am sure everyone likes and loves to possess an attractive and impressive personality.  Style is pretty much the same as a personality image. It’s a statement that you make in every action of yours whatever it might be. Understanding styles is very important as it is one of the most important factors that reflect your personality.

      Style across the board is the overall appearance of someone (a person) or an object. Interestingly style is always driven by esthetics and taste. Style for design is just like giving the flavor to the meaning of a concept, it works the same in every field of design from fashion to interiors, from painting to sculpture, and from architecture to product design.

      Throughout the chapters of the history style has been the outcome of major art and design movements, for artists and designers this era’s of historic evolution with respect to arts and design has always acted as goldmine of inspirations and ideas for developing and defining their style of work and ultimately the signature style of their work

      There is a lot in the history of art and design for every one of us, when it comes to exploring or searching inspirations for ideas and style of project of various nature and mood. Like in fashion, style in home decorating is all about creating a certain mood. Interior designers and decorators over a period of time develop a certain taste which they adopt as their permanent style. They find it easier to work in that particular style; also with time and experience they collect different permanent ideas that blend well with that style.

      Many designers explore, create, innovate, and collect items or products from fabrics, art accessories, furniture, and interior décor fittings for a particular style of home décor. This approach helps them to make a statement that speaks or reflects their decorating style.

      Many interior decorating styles exist in history and with changing times new one evolves carrying their own feel and demand. From the beginning of the time when humans discovered the way of living, style and décor has been one of their major shelter requirements.

      The quest for living in a better comfort shelter has driven the pace of industry at a much higher levels of production and quality. This has also benefited the decorating design industry, now you can find a number of interior decorating fittings, furnishings, and art objects from paintings to sculpture or fabrics of particular style and mood.
