Healing Through Yoga - Yoga Guru Sunil Singh

Do’s and Dont’s
The names of Swamis & Yoga Gurus always flash in our mind whenever we think of yoga. Yoga & yogis are indispensable parts of Indian culture. Although, now-a-days, India & rest of the world is in the stride of yoga but on the other hand, we can’t deny the importance of Medical science. Because, medical science is discovering something new to harmonize between men & nature and reaching at new conclusions everyday! It is inscripted in our mythology that yoga is the science which facilitates physical and mental development of men.
Today’s medical science believes germs to be the root cause of different diseases. In this modern era, another major cause of diseases is mental tension because all internal organs of the body are controlled by brain through nervous system like our heartbeat, secretion of digestive juices, chemical operation of glands, functioning of breathing system, blood purification, leg skin & kidneys etc. Due to mental tension, all these functions are not performed properly as a result of which we become sick.
Our Yoga Gurus knew very well the fact that this body is mortal. Body is made up of clay & would go to clay. But it is either yoga or bhoga, diseased body is a problem for both. For instance, if a person is down with stomach pain, all kinds of good foods are useless for him.
Now-a-days, new kinds of yoga are gaining popularity in India & abroad. To name just a few Pranayam
especially Anulom-Viloma
& Kapaal bhati
are attracting people heavily.
There are nine kinds of yoga that are described in Indian philosophy i.e. Sahajyoga, Mantrayoga, Rajyoga, Hathyoga, Layyoga, Dhyanyoga, Gyanyoga, Bhaktiyoga, Karmayoga and Nodha bhakti. Being a practitioner of yoga, I know that this science is mastered through the practice only and I am not such a practitioner to call myself a yoga master or Yogavid
.
Here, I want to make you aware about some hurdles in yoga. If you consider these well in yoga, you will fetch much benefits from the same.
1. Atyaahaar—This means excessive food. If a practitioner eats too much which results in sleep, laziness and a feeling of lullness then it creates obstacle in yoga practice.
2. Atiprayas—It means working too hard beyond one’s capacity. When a practitioner does excess labour beyond his capacity it also creates the tendency of diseases.
3. Prajalya—It means unnecessary discussions & gossips.
4. Atiniyam Grah—Those beliefs & practices which provoke us for a false life and thereby hurdles our yoga practices. For instance, drinking cold water in winter or even taking bath with cold water, practising beyond capacity, observing too much fasting etc.
5. Jansang—It is concerned mainly with public relations. When a practitioner spends half his time among people or relates to them the same way, then it results in lack of practice of yoga.
6. Chanchalta—Manoyatra lipte, Prano tatra Viliyate.
Wherever our mind goes, our conscience follows. If our mind is not controlled, our senses are bound not to be controlled. Hence, chanchalta is the greatest hurdle in yoga.
Let us understand very clearly that there are two streams in Ashtang yoga i.e Aasna and Pranayam. They have their own importance, but it is not synonymous with yoga! It is just a step in the direction of mastery over yoga which concerns with physical strength only. Science is doing constructive as well as destructive inventions. It is creating weapons, nuclear as well as biological bombs on the one hand and preparing and inventing new tools for increasing the production of grains on the other hand. Medicines, artificial organs etc. are going to be developed by science.
Indian society gave us many Gurus & from all of them I want to discuss the names of Swami Dheerendra Brahmchari & Aacharya Rajneesh. Swami Dheerendra Brahmchari believed yoga as science and for his whole life—he considered himself a yoga student and not a Yoga Guru. He always used to say that yoga protects and supports religion. Right knowledge is impossible without yoga and without knowledge, to dream about salvation is a mere dream. In his times, he trained many students who are doing very well and furling the flag of yoga in the whole world.
Today, people are practicing Kapalbhati, Nauli Kriya and Aasanas. If we do not take precautions while practicing yoga, then accidents would likely to occur. For instance, if someone is suffering from heart problems, high blood pressure, epilepsy, hernia or gastric ulcer and if he practices Kapal bhati, his problems & diseases may enhance & sometimes this can be fatal too. Likewise, it is not advisable to practice Sheetali or Sheetkari pranayam in winter for a person suffering from low blood pressure, asthma & heart problems. In the same way, Bhujangasan, Ustraasan & Matsyasan are not advisable for the patients of hernia, ulcer and pregnant women.
We must understand that yoga is a part of our life. We can’t underestimate the importance of medical science because medical science is doing lot of research for Cancer, H.I.V. positive, Surgery, Parkinson’s diseases, epilepsy, Thalisimia etc. Now the time has come that we realize the importance of yoga and be careful at the same time. It is best to live life with a sensible combination of yoga & medical science.
Yoga should be practised under the guidance of an able Guru because this is a science which one can master only through practice.

The Axis of Life: Eyesight
There is an obvious work pressure in office or at home. People working whole day with computer tend to have an adverse effect on their eyes and health eventually because, now-a-days, our entire life style depends upon machines. The style of our living and eating have completely changed. Due to this, we are losing touch with natural beauty and at the same time various artificial chemicals used in our food are affecting our health.
Eyes are the central point of beauty, through which we can watch the beauty of the world. T.V., cinema, working till late night, inadequate sleep, pollution, smoke etc. cause problems to our eyes. Let us now see as to how one can take care about one’s eyes in office, house or park, anytime irrespective of one’s age..
(1) Enhancing eyesight — First Step
Sit comfortably or on a chair or in Padmasana and try to see alternatively ten times to left side and ten times to right side without moving your neck. Practice this without moving your neck.
(2) Second step:
Set yourself in the same position as you did in the first step. After that, move your eyes in clockwise and again move it in anti-clock wise direction. By keeping in your mind the needle of the watch, you must have
