Vedic Astrology for Beginners - Ravi R Naik

    Om Shri GaneshayaNamah:||

    Vedic Astrology for Beginners

In this book, Vedic Astrology for Beginners I will teach you the most important topics which cover complete details on Zodiac signs and Planets. This part 1 will help new astrology learners with complete details on the role of planets in each zodiac sign, which is the most important base for predicting events. Once you learn about all the important topics, you could easily start predicting events by just glancing at the birth chart.

This series covers topics on Planets in zodiac signs and all about ascendants. Understanding one’s ascendant will cover their most important events of life. And understanding planets in the zodiac is an easy way to see the fruitful results.

Before, we move to the topic. It is very important to learn a few  basic concepts which I will cover here.

Vedic Astrology in Sanskrit is called "Jyotish" which represents light. Astrology is all about spreading positivity but not negativity. Everyone needs to have little knowledge in astrology, so that we can know if we are heading in the right direction in our life. Astrology will not only predict events in our life but will also lead us to the right direction. This is why having knowledge in astrology is very important.

Here are some important details to know before moving into our subject. Astrology is all about planets, Nakshatras and zodiacs. Astrology deals mainly with 9 planets, 27 Nakshatras and 12 zodiac signs.

    The 9 planets

Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu (also called North Node, Dragon head) and Ketu (also called North node and Dragon Tail)

    The 12 zodiac signs

Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

    The 27 Nakshatras

Ashwini, Bharani, Kritika, Rohini,Mrigasira, Adra, Punarvasu, Pushyami, Aslesha, Magha, PurvaPhalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Vishaka, Anuradha, Jyestha, Moola, Poorvashada, Uttarashada, Sravana, Dhanishta, Shatabisha, Poorvabhadra, Uttarabhadra and Revati.

    Lords of Zodiac Signs

Every zodiac sign is ruled by certain planets. These zodiac signs take energy from their ruling planets which are more important while making predictions. Except for the Sun and Moon, remaining planets have two zodiac signs. Aries and Scorpio are ruled by Mars, Taurus and Libra are ruled by Venus, Gemini and Virgo are ruled by Mercury, Sagittarius and Pisces are ruled by Jupiter, Capricorn and Aquarius are ruled by Saturn, Cancer is ruled by Moon and Leo is ruled by Sun. Rahu and Ketu do not have any zodiac signs; they just exhibit the energies of the signs wherever they are placed.

-For suppose if Rahu is placed in Aries, then it exhibits the energy of Aries and gives results accordingly.

    Strengths of Planets

Planets produce results according to their strengths. The strength of planets is calculated based on the sign, degree, nakshatra, ashtakvarga points, and shadbala.

Strength of Planets in Zodiac Signs

We will discuss the strength of planet based on zodiac signs they are placed. If any planet is placed in its own sign then it is considered as strong. If any planet is placed in its exalted sign it is considered as super strong. If any planet is placed in its Moola trikona then it turns from strong to extreme strong. (Moola Trikona Planet when placed in Trikona or Kendra controls entire Kundli for some period of time.)

Table of Planets And its own sign, Exalted and Trikona

Note – Rahu and Ketu does not have own or Moola trikona signs, however they are exalted in Taurus and Scorpio.

    Strength of Planets in Shadbala

Shadbala is another different concept in astrology that defines the strength of  planet. The strength of planets in Shadbala are based on Sthana bala, Digbala, Kala bala, Chestha bala, Naisargika bala and Ayana bala. This topic is out of our book, since it required deeper astrology knowledge which can be little complicated for beginners. So, we will just cover the required Rupas and Virupas for each planet to consider strong.

    ––––––––

If the planet is having less value than required rupas or virupas it is considered weak, if the value is more than required rupas or virupas then it is considered as strong.

Strength of Planets in other signs.

If the planets are not placed in their respective own signs in zodiac signs, the strength depends on the placement in different signs.

Placement in other zodiac signs depends on placement in houses which I will explain in my next series.

    Understanding Planet Sun for Beginners.

Before going into predictions it is important to know about the behavior of the planets that I will describe in this series, you will learn the role of each planet that plays important role in our horoscope or birth chart.

The role of the sun in astrology?

The Sun is one of the most important planets in astrology; it deals with soul, father, actions, character, attitude and personality. The Sun rules the zodiac, Leo, but it is exalted in Aries and debilitated in Libra (I will explain to you the ups and downs in my upcoming series).

Why is the sun a symbol for souls?

We already know that astrology is the study of
