      [Grace Notes have a varied history of their origin and naming. Here, I note but the concept of the appoggiatura, which relates to notes of embellishment carrying a strong-seeming dissonance, used methodically (like a new thought /suddenness of insight) to be resolved into the principal harmonic theme/tone being played. Therefore, a-dissonance-other that’s resolved harmonically into consonance. The grace is the enhancing resolution of a ting into the sing of harmonic consonance. Indeed, so like a ping a tang. . . a sun spark flashing through the crest of the wave . . . dancing, gracefully, a five-step Tango!]

      DEDICATION

      This SOS is dedicated to my children. My picture with them, 11/68 and 6/77, is on the back cover – and 2004, as the growing OK Chorale. With them in mind, at such a young-developing time, I’m moved to think of the new dedication to life required by children-families in this strange-challenging time of COVID-19 --- with all its masks, social distancing, store/business failures, holds on education, quarantines, health emergencies, and worldwide deaths/contagions played-out daily at everyone’s front door. Today’s children – being in the grip of global economies and tech-internet WWW connections – are developing a different mind-set out of this presence of pathogens and calls for new protocols for human life to thrive. They will grow-up with first-hand knowledge of the Muse of Mortality, Poetries on Purpose, and the sciences of Saving our Spherecies. I’ve created the word SPHERECIES to emphasize the fusion of sphere and species. Of course, this encompasses all species on this sphere. Behold the covenantal HUG of Earth and Eartharians: bees and beauty. Humanity is at a critical juncture of transitioning to a truly global – earthen-human – directed existence. The Screams Of Science – heard as never before. SOS!

      We may or may not be alone in the universe – but we are on our own. We must take care of our home. Today’s children will learn Home Economics on an ethical-globally-scientific scale. Hugmanity! Protocol: Protect/Progress our Promise. Mortality leads to Morality, and to Purpose and new songs. New protocols/poetries birthing to renewed purpose: Bees Our Breath! Water Our Wisdom. WOW!! You listening – BOB? – Save Our Ship! Ssve Our Stores! Save Our Singing! HAPE HOME – Home Address Planet Earth – Humanity’s Own Mother Earth. Teachers will have to teach the wonders/challenges of this global environ-bio-inter-tech-community. Today’s children will have to learn it, as they become its practitioners/sustainers/innovators. Some years ago, I wrote a sonnet titled PRIMARY LESSON. I believe it holds its own here. I’ll set it at the beginning of this collection since we are all back in school, hoping for -- expecting/loving – such teachers of our world – wherein, for sure, we must learn how to keep teaching/reaching our own inner child.
