About this ebook
WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL
“9/11’s lightning will always burn,
Branding us with the scars of terror’s fangs:
Forging, now, new American resolve
To control fate’s dark reins – mount our powers
To stomp terror out: singing Earth’s new songs,
Anthems to whistle while we work the towers. . .
THE BRAVE NEW TOWERS OF BELONGING.”
[From 9/11—2001 – Ode in ALTARPIECES – composed 9/11—2002]
Jihadist threats have lessened – internal terrorisms have evolved. COVID-19 surges.
“Under God” was not in the Pledge of Allegiance as I was (still am) “GROWING-UP.”
AND THE “HOLD ON” IS DAILY REAL AS HOLDING HIGH THAT TORCH !

MUSIC OF THE SPHERES
From Pythagoras to Plato to Boethius to Newton to --- String Theory!
In vain does the God of War growl, snarl, roar, and try to interrupt with bombards, trumpets, and his whole tarantantaran . . . . Let us despise the barbaric neighings which echo through these noble lands and awaken our understanding and longing for the harmonies.
Johannes Kepler in 1620.

does its work the arch is alive, singing, a restless choral."

FROM SYMPATHIES
Alas, we never know how many
Songs we’ll sing till there aren’t any.
"Till The End of Time, Long As Stars Are In The Blue,
Long As There’s A Spring, A Bird To Sing – I’ll Go On Loving You."
We say skoal
as we drink from the Grail,
. . . .to Love’s victory o’er vicissitude! . . .
Donizetti’s L’eslisir d’amore (Opera’s first with aria duets) . . .
Had lovers drink a presumed elixir,
It’s hope carrying each to reveal their love.
First to Nemorino who sings Una Furtiva Lagrima –
"A single secret tear…
For just an instant the beating
of her beautiful heart I could feel…
to merge my sighs with hers…
I could ask for nothing more, nothing more.
Yes, I could die! Yes, I could die for love.
(Si, puo morire! Si puo morir d’amor.)
Oh, such epiphany and sympathy!
Such need for chemistry and alchemy!
Oh, needly elixirs of prophesy!
BEHOLD THE HOLD
DEDICATION
This GOTMOL is dedicated to my artist wife, Marilyn. I, and our three children, have been without her since 05/25/09. She still graces our everyday – both in memory, art and presence. She is very present in family gatherings, where we continue to flourish her ashes into the fire – thus to ceremoniously enliven her blaze and glow again. She was a Libra in sign, which is why I published her memorial book GLISTENINGS with Xlibris in 2010 – and have continued so with this and the three previous collections of 2020 – MOM-POP-SOS. Many poetries in each from her inspiration-memory. She was 65 when I took this Staring
Reach of Apple-Picking photo of her. O! Balms of Dawn on the Lawn! O! Her Caressing Gracings of My Time’s Meaning of Life!
REACHING FOR THE STARS
"The universe -- being composed of an enormous number of…vibrating strings – is akin to a cosmic symphony.(p.146)
At this state, then, we should ‘grab hold’ of a string and ‘pluck’ it in all sorts of ways to determine the possible resonant patterns of vibration. (p.147)
Briefly put, the equations of string theory are so complicated that no one knows their exact form. . . . . Rather than having five distinct string theories, physicists are now convinced that there is one theory that sews all five into a unique . . .union . . .providing a powerful new vantage point for understanding the universe. . . .(p. 285) "And as our generation marvels at one new view of the universe -- our new way of asserting the world’s coherence—we are fulfilling our part, contributing our rung to the human ladder reaching for the stars. (p. 387) (Brian Greene The Elegant Universe
(Norton 1999).) -- Yes! Stars & Apples kin-akin to.
And One Elegant Maryl! Now Behold THE HOLD: Apples, Stars, and such as She!
So it is with GOTMOL -- The Lift – The Gift- The With – of Such EARTHANGELS – With Us Still.
GOTMOL’S PREFACING HOLD
& THE ANTHROPIC PRINCIPLE
I knew if I kept looking I’d find a physicists-philosopher
statement to assist this poetic endeavor
of mine as it attempted to include their world. First of all, there was this brief explanation by Steven Weinberg in his THE FIRST THREE MINUTES, Basic Books, 1993: "This idea --- that the constants of nature must take values that allow for the existence of life and intelligence--- is known as the anthropic principle. (p. 187) There are weak and strong variations of this and the Wikipedia article is excellent for deeper penetration. It included this
weak" view quote from Rogen Penrose’s THE EMPEROR’S NEW MIND, Chapter 10, wherein I’ve italicized the word HOLD as it appears:
"The argument can be used to explain why the conditions happen to be just right for the existence of (intelligent) life on Earth at the present time. For if it were not just right, then we should not have found ourselves to be here now, but somewhere else at some other appropriate time . . . . The issue (‘puzzling physicists’) concerned various striking numerical relations that are observed TO HOLD between the physical constants (the gravitational constant, the mass of the proton, the age of the universe, etc.). A puzzling aspect of this was that some of the relations HOLD only at the present epoch in the Earth’s history, so we appear, coincidentally, to be living at a very special time (give or take a few million years!) This was later explained --- by the fact that this epoch coincided with the lifeline of what are called main-sequence stars, such as the Sun. At any other epoch, the argument ran, there would be no intelligent life around to measure the physical constants in question. --- So the coincidence had TO HOLD simply because there would be no intelligent life around only at the particular time that the coincidences DID HOLD."
Integral to this GOTMOL is the concept of THE HOLD, which gets various treatments throughout. I’m ever expressing from this anthropic platform of THE HOLD, which is a pervasive constant
(even in randomness) that unites its function in the universe with that of THE HOLD of human consciousness and all the species. Our Hold is attuned/synced to that of the universe …somehow. We are epochally existent in this MAIN-SEQUENCE STAR/Solar-System-Hold of rotating/spinning planets maintaining their position. And Earth – holding-its-own within the holding constants of the known and unknown. -- In an ultimate sense, this HOLD, so operative throughout, is the truest
existential clue to our meaning of life. Without it we could not put 2 & 2 together so that it holds in our consciousness and mental capacity to grasp
such as E=mc2. And so it is that we know where life caresses/prospers and where it breaks-apart. The more we grasp what holds to hold us and we advance our meaning of being held – the more we grasp/get what Graces Our Time’s Meaning Of Life. O! To be Initiated into the Mysteries of Life! Welcome to that other version of MOM – the Magics of Meaning. Hopefully, this GOTMOL will clarify the picture and expand your vision. It has mine. I’m increasingly moved to surmise the purpose of existence is THE HOLD: therefore, the same for us. It Sings Sound! Serves Whole! Feels Good! Holds Fast! Rings True. Holy Grail! Earthy Trail! Structures of ladders to climb higher.
O! The Reverberant Grace of it All!
[Yes, the Seventh Sense of The Hold. The five of sight, taste, touch, sound, smell have a sixth which is that big I
of intuition/inspiration/intelligence. The 7th Sense percieves(lives with) – by virtue of the holistic interplay of these six – an existential reality of being held, holding-on, and being the creator of holding patterns
that structure and define life as we know it. Namely, finding-framing-following the patterns/forms that hold things together
– like trees, Toyotas, trinities: stars and species. Concepts of deity, transcendence, gods as absolutes which hold us as the held – come from this holistic sense of THE HOLD – in us and in all the holds of existence. The fact that the number 7 is the keystone-prime (chakaras all) between primes of 3/5 and 9/11 – strengthens its play of the day or week. Amazing to find seven orifices in the head: eyes/nostrils/mouth/ears. O! Recall the Seven Breath Sounds of the Quintetoion. (see Glossary)]
