About this ebook

It was easy to lose sight of what was important when Covid19 shook the world. Being lost in my thoughts and emotions was hard at first. Many people, including family, lost their jobs and their livelihood and were uncertain about the future. I was heartbroken to see pain and despair all around me. So I decided to pick up a pen and I started to write. Writing gave me peace and I was able to navigate through all my emotions and find my happiness again.

This book is a combination of wisdom I put together that helped me ground myself. I cannot take full credit for the contents of this book. I shared much of what I had learned over the years and combined it with my personal experiences. I hope you can use what is on these pages to find your peace and learn how to love yourself again, as I have.

    PREFACE

I am sharing some of my learned lessons and knowledge that I acquired throughout my lifetime. The majority of this book is entirely personal. It’s been my work away from work since the Covid19 crises. This process has been a reflective one that has not been easy at times. Some memories are more painful than others, but I found that sharing them helped me get through the lingering emotions. Many memories have been wonderful to relive through as well.

I pray you find a bit of inspiration in the writings. I included many teachings of those who inspire me, quotes from the Bible and prominent individuals, and my own experiences. Our experiences help us gain knowledge. They can make us or break us. Each experience is a stepping stone bringing us closer to who we are meant to be.

Experiences are what you get when you don’t get what you want. Randy Pausch

I do hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it. May this writing help you find your way and see the truth and love in yourself and others. If you are in a dark place, know that you are not alone. God is always with you.

    DEDICATION

I dedicate this book to my husband, Louis Emery Roger II, our children, Kain, Celeste, and Emery. None of this would’ve been possible without your love and support. You are the engine that drives my life.

I would like to give a special thanks to my muse, William Linares, who helped and encouraged me throughout this journey.

To my family members from my grandparents, parents, sister, brother, friends, I thank and love you all. To those who have contributed, I appreciate all of you. For those who have gone before us, you have inspired me and helped me become the strong woman I am today. I love you all forever and always.

    I. INTRODUCTION

W hat is life? What happens when everything you think you know turns out to be just an illusion? Does it change you? Does it make you a better person? What have you learned along the way? Whose life can you make better because of it?

I’ve been asking myself these questions for years. Then one beautiful day, the answers came. Through Covid19 outbreaks, global crises, and mandated lock-ins, perfection came with total clarity. Funny how that works. I was able to get out of my head and reconnect with family, friends, and most importantly, myself. I’ve read and listened to the most enlightening books and wonderfully composed songs. I’ve heard some of the most exceptional motivational speakers and listened to the most inspirational souls. This book will mention many of those people, writings, along with familiar quotes and teachings. I hope it helps you as it did me. Sometimes we just need to be reminded of what’s essential. I had to get back to the basics and remember who I was. I gathered my thoughts, all the emotions I was feeling, and just allowed them to come out. I had to acknowledge what I was going through physically, emotionally, and spiritually to be able to ground myself again. Now I feel renewed in my zest for life and with a much deeper connection with God. So here it is, My Quarantine Musings and how I found myself again in a world disconnected.

To be completely honest, I never intended to write a book. My thoughts were supposed to be a letter to my children and grandchildren so they would know their past and know what it means to be a part of this grand family legacy. I soon realized that I had much to say and more to share. It became a personal journey. I wanted to share it with others, not just family. Many of you will be able to relate to my story, and many may not, but I figured if I could help just one other person find themselves and learn to be proud of who they are and where they come from, it would be worth the time to try. My letter was fastly becoming my memoir, and I let God lead the way. Call it Divine Intervention.
