Lord Rudra Primer
Rudra, the God of roaring storm be,
Is portrayed in accordance usually,
With the element he representing be,
As a fierce, very destructive deity;
He looks fierce but Lord Rudra be,
Ever merciful and benevolent highly,
Fulfilling the needs of his devotees,
Bringing about peace and stability;
Rudra is a powerful Rigvedic deity,
Linked with wind or storm, hunt.be,
Praised as the 'mightiest of mighty',
Who removes all problems totally;
He at dissolution destroys time fully,
And the most sever roarer/howler be,
He evil eliminator, peace usherer be,
The wild, untamed, fierce one surely;
He can kill forces of darkness truly,
He the archer, arrow is essentially.
The very mention of Rudra initially,
Found in Rig Veda indisputably;
Rudra a cowering feared deity,
His wrath dreaded, favor fiery,
He cures diseases completely,
And is the Lord of Remedies;
He Sovereign of Universe be,
Resident in heart of gods surely,
He Purush, soul of creatures be,
He the Lord of all the lords be;
He for liberation worshipped be,
From death and for immortality;
Material universe, created life be,
All created in past and present be;
In the form of this world certainly,
All that indeed this Rudra does be.
Overview
The world originated with efforts solely,
Of three supreme and powerful deities,
Brahma – Creator, Vishnu - protector be,
And Shiv- the destroyer of all certainly.
The word Rudra
means to cry truly,
Rudra a roarer, personifies terror surely,
Rudra is red, frightening undoubtedly,
He intense, rids dark with light heavenly.
Lord Rudra first in the Rig Veda be,
Known as the mightiest of the mighty,
However, no direct reference seen,
Or has been made to him evidently,
He known ass (pitar) father be,
Of (marutam) Maruts, Storm God be,
In the verses of Grisamada Rishi,
He the best of all physicians does be,
Knows about all the healing remedies,
Medicines, balms; - vaidyanath called be.
He golden haired, blue complexion be,
Wearing ornaments on his arms sturdy,
Reflecting his mesmerizing personality,
Pinaka in one hand, arrow in other be.
The blue skin of Lord Rudra actually,
Connected to drinking of poison be;
During the ocean churning* in reality,
Venom dropped from mouth of Vasuki,
* Samudra-Manthan
He the snake around Rudra neck be,
Used as rope for the churning clearly,
The gods and the demons terrified be,
Approached Lord to help them quickly,
Wanted him to deal with poison swiftly,
Which could destroy creation totally.
Manifestation in Rigveda of Rudra be,
Very terrible and violent completely,
But opposite in Krishna Yajurveda be,
As the modest and tranquil entirely,
He is said to reside in the heart truly,
Of all gods and he Lord of universe be.
In Atharva Veda he known as Pasupati,
The ruler of domestic animal literally,
Associated with bull, symbol of fertility,
Wearing tiger skin, skulls, ash over body.
Vishnu Purana tells Rudra created be,
By Brahma, the creator in actuality,
He carved a child so very lovingly,
But on birth, the child cried profusely,
As he just wanted to be named clearly,
So, Brahma named him Rudra finally.
As per some sources, Rudra born be,
From wife of sage Kashyap - Surbhi,
Some scriptures say the 11 Rudras be,
Created by Lord Shiv on Brahma’s plea,
All these Rudras are powerful equally,
As Shiv himself – Supreme, Almighty.
Both Rudra and Shiv seen similarly,
Their names used interchangeably,
Shiv omnipresent source of energy,
Rudra as physical manifestation be.
Who Is Rudra

सर्वदेवात्मको रुद्र: सर्वे देवा: शिवात्मका: ।
रुद्रात्प्रवर्तते बीजं बीजयोनिर्जनार्दन: ॥
यो रुद्र: स स्वयं ब्रह्मा यो ब्रह्मा स हुताशन: ।
ब्रह्मविष्णुमयो रुद्र अग्नीषोमात्मकं जगत् ॥
Brahma, Vishnu, all gods Rudrashan be,
And everything is born from Rudra truly,
This shows that Rudra is Brahma surely,
And He is Swayambhu unquestionably.

यश्च सागरपर्यन्तां सशैलवनकाननाम् ।
सर्वान्नात्मगुणोपेतां सुवृक्षजलशोभिताम् ॥
दद्यात् कांचनसंयुक्तां भूमिं चौषधिसंयुताम् ।
तस्मादप्यधिकं तस्य सकृद्रुद्रजपाद्भवेत् ॥
यश्च रुद्रांजपेन्नित्यं ध्यायमानो महेश्वरम् ।
स तेनैव च देहेन रुद्र: संजायते ध्रुवम् ॥
Who donates earth, water, hills, trees qualities,
And blessed with wealth and medicines be;
Yet who chants a Rudri, Rudrabhishek truly,
He a far more virtuous person is in actuality;
Who meditating on Shiv recites the Rudri,
Becomes the very home of Rudra definitely.
Shri Rudra Mantra
Rudra mantras remove fear totally,
Clears mind’s confusions, vagaries,
For all illness it is the true remedy,
For all discomforts, diseases truly;
It relieves uncomfortable state fully,
Promote overall health and jubilee,
When your energies but drained be,
It recharges your mind, spirit, body;
It relieves the harmful influences fully,
Of planets, bringing peace and stability,
Augments positive influences planetary,
Offsetting their negative impacts totally.
Feature of Shri Rudra Mantra
Rudra mantra is dedicated fully,
To Lord Rudra who in actuality,
Another form of Lord Shiv be,
In the broadest sense in reality,
The Almighty Mahadev Rudra be,
Shiv of Rudra mantra - ruling deity,
Chanting of this Mantra repeatedly,
Auspiciousness of Shiv got be,
Rudra, God of Gods, pleased be,
Fulfills wishes of his devotees.
Shiv in destructive form truly,
Destroy sorrows as Rudra clearly,
Effect of Shri Rudra Mantra
Rudra mantra is powerful, holy,
Chanting it blessings of got be,
Diseases, sufferings difficulties,
By chanting are overcome finally,
Shri Rudra Mantra
Om Namo Bhagwate Rudraya
॥ ॐ नमो भगवते रूद्राय ॥
I bow down to Lord Rudra truly,
Ever respectful and very humbly.
OR
I bow to Lord Rudra who be,
Lord Shiv – my salutations truly.
Shri Rudra Gayatri Mantra
ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे
ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे महादेवाय धीमहि
तन्नो रुद्रः प्रचोदयात् ॥
Om
I pray to the mightiest of the Gods earnestly,
Who the ideal Purusha, Mahadev does be;
Bless me with knowledge and enlighten me,
With the deep true profound wisdom wholly.
OR
OM Let’s invoke the realms three,
Of the earth, wind and fire wholly;
Let’s invoke The omniscient Lord truly,
Meditate, focus on supreme Almighty;
Let’s ask Rudra to provide us absolutely,
Inspiration, guidance in spiritual journeys
ॐ सर्वेश्वराय विद्महे, शूलहस्ताय धीमहि ।
तन्नो रूद्र प्रचोदयात् ॥
God Almighty, a trident in your hand be,
My life engulfed in sufferings, difficulties,
I seek your refuge, in your grace take me,
Remove my sufferings – bless, guide me.
