About this ebook

Get the Summary of Prince Harry's Spare in 20 minutes. Please note: This is a summary & not the original book. Original book introduction: For Harry, this is that story at last.

Before losing his mother, twelve-year-old Prince Harry was known as the carefree one, the happy-go-lucky Spare to the more serious Heir. Grief changed everything. He struggled at school, struggled with anger, with loneliness—and, because he blamed the press for his mother’s death, he struggled to accept life in the spotlight.

At twenty-one, he joined the British Army. The discipline gave him structure, and two combat tours made him a hero at home. But he soon felt more lost than ever, suffering from post-traumatic stress and prone to crippling panic attacks. Above all, he couldn’t find true love.

Then he met Meghan. The world was swept away by the couple’s cinematic romance and rejoiced in their fairy-tale wedding. But from the beginning, Harry and Meghan were preyed upon by the press, subjected to waves of abuse, racism, and lies. Watching his wife suffer, their safety and mental health at risk, Harry saw no other way to prevent the tragedy of history repeating itself but to flee his mother country. Over the centuries, leaving the Royal Family was an act few had dared. The last to try, in fact, had been his mother. . . .

    About the Author

    Overview

In Spare (2023), Prince Harry bares his soul as he lays out his entire story, starting with the most pivotal moment in his life: Princess Diana’s death. The prince reflects on his lifelong struggles with grief and the media, and the role his own family played in all of it. He also gives insights into how he met his wife, Meghan Markle, and how they both have had to fight the entire world, including the British royal family, to protect their love and children.

    An Untimely Death

Prince Harry was born on September 15, 1984. He was often referred to by the media and his family as the Spare, a traditional British nickname for the second son who would inherit if something happened to his older brother, the Heir. However, he took no offense. He knew that many children dreamed of being a prince or princess, and being a Spare wasn’t half bad.

He fondly remembers his childhood at Balmoral Castle, the Scottish home of the British royal family. Prince Harry was always happy there. His family would spend part of every summer there, except for his mother, who was no longer part of the family. He specifically remembers August 1997 as the happiest summer he ever had at the castle. He was there with his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, his brother
