To all the faithful men and women who walked out their faith before me and taught me the importance of being more than a church member.
And as always, to Lisa, Jackson, Moriah, and our dog Wynter.
Acknowledgment
I want to acknowledge H. I. Grimble, John Hardeman, John Hollie, Kenneth Furch Sr., Laurie Pennie, and T. L. Johnson. These are the men that I looked up to as examples of committed disciples of Christ in my most formative years.
I want to acknowledge the contribution of Bishop James W. E. Dixon II. He was instrumental in me lifting my expectations to another level, as he is known for saying, Exposure expands expectations.
I am forever grateful.
I am grateful for my time at Dallas Baptist University and those who helped me develop in my discipleship and as an academic.
To all the congregations that I have had the privilege to serve over these three decades of ministry, thank you for pouring into me. You have made me better. The sweet aroma of fellowship still lingers in my heart.
To Shiloh Garland, this is, in fact, my love letter to you. I desire you to embrace the truth and wisdom of these words. We are much closer to greatness than you may imagine. Walk into that greatness.

Embracing Discipleship:
Moving Beyond Church Membership
In today’s world, being a member of a church often involves attending weekly services and participating in various activities. However, there is a deeper calling that extends beyond mere membership. It is the call to discipleship, a transformative journey of faith and commitment. Discipleship is not about passive participation; it requires active engagement, daily devotion, and a continual seeking of God’s guidance.
The essence of discipleship lies in the practical aspects of daily devotion. It is not limited to a specific time or place but encompasses every aspect of our lives. As disciples, we strive to embody the teachings of our faith in our thoughts, words, and actions. We seek to reflect God’s love, mercy, and compassion in our interactions with others. This
