    Foreword

by Ernest Tre Hadrick III (Mr. Lit)

In our industrialized society, written words are a key part of people’s lives. Learning to read these words is arguably the single most important skill that a child needs to learn. When a child can read, they have a lifetime of possibilities opened up to them.

Schools are working hard to meet the challenge of teaching children to read, with a renewed focus on teaching phonics. At the same time, many parents often feel that they are not equipped with the tools to help their children learn to read and spell.

This book, aimed at helping parents, is the guide that every parent needs to help them understand the process of learning to read and spell. Written by an international specialist in literacy who cares passionately about helping all children learn to read, this guide will take you through everything you need to know about how reading and spelling are taught using phonics and how you can help at home.

My hope is that this book will go a long way in helping you raise your own happy, confident, and successful reading child. Be Lit!

Tre Hadrick, also known as Mr. Lit, is an educator, certified counselor, and community leader in Norristown, PA. For more than fifteen years, he has worked to advance the lives of young children, teens, and their families. He currently serves as a school counselor at Central Montco Technical High School and an adjunct professor at Villanova University. He was recently appointed to the Pennsylvania State Board of Education.
